Enabling logging for IBM Daeja ViewONE Professional Edition viewer

You can enable logging for IBM® Daeja ViewONE Professional Edition from the IBM Content Navigator administration tool. If you know that a problem occurs for a specific feature, you can target your logging to that feature.

About this task

You can enable the following types of logging:
Trace logging
Troubleshoot general issues with the viewer or module.
Network logging
Determine where delays occur with the viewer or module or troubleshoot errors with your server connection, MIME types, or file length.
Annotations logging
Troubleshoot issues with creating, saving, or loading annotations in the viewer.
Warning: You should not run a trace during peak production because running a trace can slow a system or bring it to a halt.
For IBM Daeja ViewONE Professional Edition, logging information is written to the Java console on the client machine:
  • On Windows systems, you can access the Java console from the Control Panel.
  • On Mac OS systems, you can access the Java console from the System Preferences.

If you enabled the server modules for document streaming or permanent redaction, you can also use logging to troubleshoot problems with those modules. You must specify the fully qualified file path to the log file where you want to store logging information. The default log files are install_dir\config\streamer.log for document streaming, and install_dir\config\redactofile.log for permanent redaction, where install_dir is the directory where IBM Content Navigator is installed. For example, if you used the default directory for installation, the default log file for document streaming is C:\Program Files\IBM\ECMClient\config\streamer.log.

Important: If you clear the log file field, you disable logging for the module. If you do not specify a location for the log file, the log file is not created.
