However, you can create additional filters on the Settings page of the IBM Content Navigator administration tool. When you create a filter, you can specify a name and a description for the filter. IBM Content Navigator web client file type filters

In the IBM Content Navigator web client, users can use the list of file type filters to refine their search. If the user does not select a file type filter, the repository returns any results that match the search criteria, regardless of file type.

In the IBM Content Navigator web client, the filter setting controls which file type filters are displayed in the Search view.

IBM Content Navigator for Microsoft Office file type filters

In IBM Content Navigator for Microsoft Office, the list of file type filters restricts the types of files that users can search for. Users can search only for file types that are included in the list of file type filters.

By default, IBM Content Navigator for Microsoft Office users can search only for Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word documents and PDF documents. With the default list of file type filters, a search in IBM Content Navigator for Microsoft Office does not return any images in the results even if images that match the search criteria are in the repository.

In IBM Content Navigator for Microsoft Office, the filter setting controls which file type filters are displayed in the Search view and affects the types of files that users can search for. If you do not include a file type filter in the list of selected filters, users cannot search for that file type in IBM Content Navigator for Microsoft Office. For example, if you select the Microsoft PowerPoint and Word filters but do not select the Excel filter, users cannot search for Microsoft Excel files from IBM Content Navigator for Microsoft Office.
