Parent folder for saved search items

You can control whether to file the items that store saved searches in a folder or leave saved search items unfiled.

You can file items in folders so that users can copy and make more saved searches without using the SavedSearchAdmin tool. You can file items in locations that only you can access. Or, you can create a saved search that returns saved search items and give access to that search to appropriate users. When you create a saved search, you can use the pf or parentFolder parameter to specify one of the following options:

Saved searches are stored in the repository as items with metadata only, with the same behavior as a 0-byte document. If you file the saved search item in a folder that is accessible to users with appropriate permission, they can see or modify the saved search item. If you file the saved search item in a folder that you can browse to, you can edit the document properties (for example, name, title) or edit the stored query. You can also create new saved searches by copying an existing saved search and then editing it.

However, when the stored search item is filed in a folder, all users who have edit access to the library and folder can modify or delete the saved search item. If you do not want users to modify or delete the saved search item, use the unfiled option. The unfiled option is the safest choice, but that option also prevents you browsing to the saved search item to edit the document properties.

Deleting any parent folder (with cascading delete) deletes all items in the folder tree, including items that store saved searches. When you delete a parent folder, the saved search is also deleted from the list of saved searches. However, the results of the saved search items are not deleted.
