Applying a license to an Open Liberty instance

You can apply your WebSphere® Application Server license to an Open Liberty instance by using the IBM License Metric Tool. When the license is applied, the Open Liberty instance is counted as part of your Liberty entitlement.

Before you begin

You must have a valid WebSphere Application Server or WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment license.

About this task

Open Liberty is open source and free to use. However, when you purchase a WebSphere Application Server- Base or WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment license, you also get IBM support for your Open Liberty instances.

You can apply a license by using the License Metric Tool. The Open Liberty runtime includes metadata that automatically makes it visible to this tool. When you manage your licenses with this tool, your Open Liberty instances appear among the list of products that are available for your entitlement in the License Metric Tool portal.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the License Metric Tool.
  2. Locate your Open Liberty instance and assign it to your WebSphere Application Server license.
  3. Verify whether the license is assigned to the Open Liberty instance.
For more information, see Viewing history of installed components.
