Installing DB2 Warehouse by using the launchpads

For most production environments, IBM® recommends that you install DB2® Warehouse by using the launchpads. The launchpads help simplify the process of installing the product on multiple computers.

Before you begin

Starting with DB2 Warehouse, Version 10.5 Fix Pack 4, you can no longer install DB2 database software using the DB2 Warehouse installer. DB2 database software is installed with a separate installer. In addition, DB2 database software must be installed before you install DB2 Warehouse software. For more information on installing DB2 database software, see the Installing topic.

The DB2 Warehouse installation program can create an unencrypted database for you or you can create one yourself. If you require an encrypted database, you must create it manually before beginning the installation. For more information on creating encrypted databases, see the Creating Databases topic.

The DB2 Warehouse launchpad is browser based and can be viewed from any Web browser.

Certain prerequisites are checked during the initialization of the installer. The results of this test, are written to logs in the following directories:
On Linux and UNIX
/opt/IBM/ISWarehouse10/logs
On Windows
C:\Program Files\IBM\ISWarehouse10\logs

During the installation of the warehouse server components of DB2 Warehouse, you are prompted to enter the connection information for the metadata database. The installation program stores this information in a properties file and uses it to test the connection to the metadata database. You can proceed with the installation only after the connection is verified.

  1. To install the data server components and the application server components, from the directory of the server image run the launchpad for the servers by issuing the following command:
    • On Linux and UNIX, 32-bit: server_image_path/server/isw/launchpad.sh
    • On Windows, 32-bit: server_image_path\server\isw\launchpad.exe
    • On Linux and UNIX, 64-bit: server_image_path/server/isw/launchpad64.sh
    • On Windows, 64-bit: : server_image_path\server\isw\launchpad64.exe
where server_image_path is the path to the server installation image.
  2. To install the client components, from the directory of the client image, run the launchpad for the client by issuing the following command:
    • On Linux, 32-bit: client_image_path/client/isw/launchpad.sh
    • On Windows, 32-bit: client_image_path\client\isw\launchpad.exe
    • On Linux, 64-bit: client_image_path/client/isw/launchpad64.sh
    • On Windows, 64-bit: client_image_path\client\isw\launchpad64.exe
where client_image_path is the path to the client installation image.

What to do next

After you finish the installation, you can verify that it was successful by checking the installation log files. If you are satisfied that the installation was successful, you can begin configuring the product.
