DB2 add-on offerings

In DB2 Version 10.5 Fix Pack 5 and later fix packs, you can add functionality to various DB2 base editions with these DB2 add-on offerings:
  • IBM DB2 BLU Acceleration In-Memory Offering
  • IBM DB2 Business Application Continuity Offering
  • IBM DB2 Encryption Offering
  • IBM DB2 Performance Management Offering.
The IBM DB2 Encryption Offering provides new encryption functionality that is introduced in DB2 Version 10.5 Fix Pack 5. The other offerings provide existing functionality; starting in DB2 Version 10.5 Fix Pack 5, the existing functionality is packaged and available to be added to various DB2 products. Some DB2 product editions include these DB2 offerings by default. Otherwise, a license for each DB2 offering is available for purchase.
The following summarizes the functionality available in each DB2 add-on offering:
IBM DB2 BLU Acceleration In-Memory Offering
The pervasiveness of analytics within an organization continues to put demands on traditional database environments as organizations struggle to deploy analytics to a wider audience or bring new analytical applications to the organization. BLU Acceleration technology delivers simplicity and scalable performance to meet these demands through its innovative columnar, dynamic in-memory, and actionable compression technologies. BLU Acceleration delivers faster performance for analytical applications over traditional row-organized tables. Not all environments are 100% analytical reporting environments. Many environments are a mixed (hybrid) environment of transactional workloads and analytical reporting that need to support the transactional responsiveness for transactional queries and high-speed analytics for the reporting workloads. Shadow tables capabilities can do exactly that, and with little or no impact to the transactional queries, provide a columnar representation of the table at the same time for the reporting workloads.
The IBM DB2 BLU Acceleration In-Memory Offering takes advantage of the following DB2 functionality:

This offering can be added to either the DB2 Enterprise Server Edition or the DB2 Workgroup Server Edition.

IBM DB2 Business Application Continuity Offering
Transactional database systems have become mission-critical aspects of a business’ ability to run daily operations from point-of-sale transactions to supply chain management. Any outage in these critical systems is disastrous if not crippling to the ability of the business to meet client expectations or required Service Level Agreements. IBM DB2 pureScale® technology provides continuous availability, however, it might be too costly to deploy a DB2 pureScale clustered solution. With IBM DB2 Business Application Continuity Offering, you can deploy a two member DB2 pureScale environment where one member is active for processing the application workloads and one member is an idle standby.

The idle standby member provides the DB2 pureScale availability and takes over the application workload in the case of planned or unplanned outages of the primary active member. In addition, the idle standby member is used to perform common administrative functions, and provide the ability to offload compute, memory and I/O administrative tasks away from the primary active member. The resulting environment gives high-speed transactional processing with the continuous availability capability delivered through a DB2 pureScale environment.

For more information, see the developerWorks® article at: https://ibm.biz/BdEqma.

This offering can be added to either the DB2 Enterprise Server Edition or the DB2 Workgroup Server Edition.

IBM DB2 Encryption Offering
Increasingly businesses are considering or are mandated to encrypt sensitive data to meet regulatory or organizational requirements. IBM DB2 Encryption Offering assists organizations to meet those requirements by providing, within the DB2 database engine itself, native encryption capabilities that encrypt data at rest for the entire database, including backup images. Native encryption ensures that sensitive data is encrypted and secured at all times. Deployment of native encryption is straight forward to enable, transparent to the applications accessing the data, and applied to backups as well. Native encryption meets the requirements of NIST SP 800-131 compliant cryptographic algorithms and utilizes FIPS 140-2 certified cryptographic libraries.
This offering includes:
  • Native backup encryption:
  • Native database encryption

For more information, see DB2 native encryption.

The IBM DB2 Encryption Offering can be added to the DB2 Enterprise Server Edition, the DB2 Workgroup Server Edition, or the DB2 Express Server Edition. Native encryption functionality is included by default in these DB2 product editions: DB2 Express-C, DB2 Advanced Workgroup Server Edition, DB2 Advanced Enterprise Server Edition, and the DB2 Developer Edition.

IBM DB2 Performance Management Offering
The IBM DB2 Performance Management Offering can help you improve database and application performance, and reduce costs. This offering provides database administrators (DBAs) and other information technology (IT) staff with the information they need to manage performance pro-actively, and can help prevent problems before problems impact the business. IBM InfoSphere Optim Performance Manager supports monitoring of all aspects of the database, including column-organized tables and their shadow table implementations. InfoSphere Optim Performance Manager can help you identify emergent problems and receive notification of degrading performance or emerging resource bottlenecks, diagnose the root cause of problems, and isolate problematic components across applications, networks, and databases. InfoSphere Optim Performance Manager can also help prevent performance problems by defining and using a more predictable database server execution environment, and can help solve performance problems by delivering workloads to IBM InfoSphere Optim Query Workload Tuner to get actionable tuning recommendations.

The IBM DB2 Performance Management Offering can be added to the DB2 Enterprise Server Edition, the DB2 Workgroup Server Edition, or the DB2 Express Server Edition.

Each of the DB2 add-on offerings has its own license certificate file. The license certificate file is available on the Activation CD from either: To enable the offering, apply the DB2 offering license certificate file (in addition to the base license certificate of the DB2 database product edition), using the db2licm command. For a full list of license certification file names, see DB2 license files.

You can try the DB2 functionality available in the offerings, and use DB2 core database, warehousing capabilities, and other functionality, by downloading the DB2 Version 10.5 Fix Pack 5 trial edition from the DB2 database software download site. Trial license usage is limited to 90 days from the date of installation. After the trial license usage limit, you can continue using the DB2 product and DB2 offerings by registering the license certificate files. For details, see Updating a Trial license.
