DB2 10.5 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows

Access to the DB2 documentation

Access to the DB2® documentation is provided through several tools and methods.

You can access the DB2 documentation by using:

Accessing the DB2 documentation in IBM Knowledge Center

Using a supported browser, you can access the documentation for all supported DB2 versions and releases online through the entry point for the product documentation in IBM Knowledge Center.

Use the db2set command to configure the registry variables on your computer to access the DB2 documentation from IBM Knowledge Center or the DB2 Information Center from your computer.

Accessing the DB2 Information Center on your computer

After you install a DB2 product, if you want to access DB2 documentation on the same computer, install the DB2 Information Center. To install the DB2 Information Center, use the DB2 Information Center DVD in the media pack or the files that you downloaded from IBM Passport Advantage®.

Configure your local DB2 Information Center installation to access the most up-to-date information about the DB2 product by applying the documentation updates.

Accessing the DB2 Information Center on an intranet server

You can install a copy of the DB2 Information Center on an intranet server so that everyone on the intranet can have access to the DB2 documentation without having to install the documentation on every computer.

Using a response file for product installation, you can configure every IBM data server client to access the documentation on the intranet server. The response file must contain the configuration information that is necessary to access the DB2 Information Center with the host name and the port number of the DB2 Information Center on the intranet server. Alternatively, generate the response file with the db2setup command by choosing a custom installation from a DB2 server or IBM data server client product.

You can also change the registry variable settings for the already installed IBM Data Server Client to use the DB2 Information Center that is hosted on your intranet. To change the DB2 Information Center registry variables on each computer, use the db2set command. The DB2_DOCHOST registry variable contains the host name, and DB2_DOCPORT registry variable contains the port number. The values of these variables must match the host name and port number on the intranet server where the DB2 Information Center is installed.
