Administering Liberty using Admin Center
You can use the Liberty Administrative Center ("Admin Center") to administer Liberty servers, applications, and other resources from a web browser on a smartphone, tablet, or computer.

About this task
Use Admin Center with a Liberty server or Liberty Core installation. An installation of WebSphere® Application Server traditional is not required.
Admin Center offers the ability to start, stop, and view details about Liberty and Node.js servers and applications. It also offers the ability to edit server configuration files, to view bookmarked information, to add tools, to monitor server resources, and to deploy server packages on hosts within a collective. Advantages of the Admin Center design include:
- A user interface with a mobile look-and-feel for web browsers on a smartphone or tablet
- Support for multiple lightweight, task-oriented tools
- A toolbox that you can customize by selecting tools from a catalog, specifying bookmarks, or specifying user preferences
You can administer Node.js applications that are member servers of a Liberty collective in Admin Center. Node.js applications are not shown as application resources because a Node.js application can only be interacted with after it is joined to a collective as a member server. Thus, to start a Node.js application, start its collective member server. Similarly, to stop a Node.js application, stop its member server. This differs from Liberty in that you can stop or start applications deployed on a running Liberty server without affecting the status of the Liberty server. Liberty servers can run within or outside of a Docker container.
