Configuring high availability in an InfoSphere Streams enterprise domain

Both domains and instances have a high availability count property. This property indicates how many copies of management services are maintained by a domain or instance. The extra copies (also known as standby services) allow for automatic failover if resources unexpectedly fail or become unavailable.
