Viewing running proxies

You can view all IBM® Rational® Integration Tester proxies that are registered with the current IBM Rational Test Control Panel instance and that are currently running.

Procedure

  1. Log into Rational Test Control Panel.

The application window of Rational Test Control Panel is displayed.

  2. Click the Agents icon or navigation link.

    The Agents page is displayed.

Any Rational Integration Tester proxies registered with the current Rational Test Control Panel instance that are currently running are displayed. Details displayed include proxy-type, host name, port number, domain and environment, software version number, configuration file location, log level, current status, and date and time of last poll.
Note: If you are using Rational Test Control Panel 8.6.0 or later, the current request activity level observed for each proxy registered with Rational Test Control Panel is displayed by an icon located between the current status and the date and time of the last poll. The activity level displayed is based on request data for the last ten observation periods, and the duration of each observation period is 30 seconds. The following table describes the possible statuses of the proxy activity icon:
Table 1. The possible statuses of the proxy activity icon on the Agents page of Rational Test Control Panel 8.6.0 or later
Icon Activity level Number of observation periods that have any request activity
    Proxy activity icon - Unknown

    Unknown

Rational Test Control Panel is not subscribed to observation statistics for the selected proxy or the proxy does not support the provision of statistics.

Proxy activity icon - No activity

    None

    0

Proxy activity icon - Low activity

    Low

    1-3

Proxy activity icon - Medium activity

    Medium

    4-7

Proxy activity icon - High activity

    High

    8-10

Clicking the proxy activity icon of a proxy opens the Proxy details pop-up window and expands the Statistics panel within it. For information about this window and page, see Table 2.
Note: If you are using version 8.6.0 or later of Rational Test Control Panel and IBM Rational Integration Tester Platform Pack, you have the option to configure an instance name for each Rational Integration Tester proxy that is registered with Rational Test Control Panel. Assigning a name makes it easier to identify a specific agent when there are two or more agents of the same type registered with Rational Test Control Panel. Configuring an instance name involves uncommenting and editing the identifier name setting in the configuration file of the proxy and then restarting the proxy.
  3. Click the magnifying glass button (Magnifying glass button) of the relevant proxy.
The pop-up window displayed depends on the version of Rational Test Control Panel that you are using:
    • If you are using a version of Rational Test Control Panel earlier than 8.6.0, clicking the magnifying glass button opens the Proxy routing rules pop-up window, which displays details about any routing rules defined for the proxy.
    • If you are using Rational Test Control Panel 8.6.0 or later, clicking the magnifying glass button highlights the selected proxy and opens the Proxy details pop-up window, which displays routing rules and optionally information about the traffic passing through the proxy. The Log level list enables you to change the log level of the selected proxy. The Observation level list enables you to select the level or type of observations from the selected proxy to which Rational Test Control Panel subscribes. The following table describes how to use the Observation level list:
Table 2. Using the Observation level list in the Proxy details pop-up window in Rational Test Control Panel 8.6.0 or later
      Observation level list option Description

      None

If you click None, Rational Test Control Panel will no longer be subscribed to statistics or resources data reported from the selected proxy. In addition, although any data currently displayed on the Statistics and Observed resources pages of the Proxy details pop-up window will continue to be displayed, it will not be updated.
Important: If you close the Proxy details pop-up window after clicking None, the data on the Statistics and Observed resources pages will be purged. However, if you click Statistics or Resources, data is preserved in the Statistics and Observed resources pages for as long as observation of the proxy is continuing.

      Statistics

If you click Statistics, over time, the proxy will collect statistics about the traffic that it observes and update the Statistics page every 30 seconds. The data displayed is grouped into 30-second intervals.
Note: If there are more than ten intervals, old intervals are discarded.
      The following statistics are displayed:
      • Observed requests: The total number of requests observed during the period.
      • Recorded: The number of observed requests that were recorded during the period.
      • Routed: The number of observed requests that were routed during the period.

      Resources

If you click Resources, the proxy will collect data about the resources that it has observed in its traffic and update the Observed resources page in the Proxy details pop-up window every 30 seconds.
Note: For each 30-second period, the proxy will provide observation data for a maximum of 100 unique resources.
The following Rational Integration Tester Platform Pack intercept types are supported:
      • CICS® Transaction Gateway (TG) proxies
Note: Resource observations will not be provided if the proxy is running in the CICS Transaction Gateway daemon.
      • HTTP proxies
      • JDBC proxies
      • SIBus Intercept Mediators
      • TCP proxies
Note: All users of an instance of Rational Test Control Panel 8.6.0 or later share the same observation level for each proxy registered with that instance. Therefore, if you click a different option in the Observation level list, this will affect what is displayed in the Proxy details pop-up window for all users of the instance.
Note: If the Observation level list is set to None and the Create from observed resources wizard in Rational Integration Tester 8.6.0 or later is not being used to capture observed resources from the selected proxy, the proxy will not collect observation data, which might increase the performance of the proxy.
  4. Optional: Click Show all rules or Show rules to split the Agents page and display recording rules that have been set up from the Recording Studio perspective of Rational Integration Tester or routing rules that are set up when you start a stub.
Note: If you are using a version of Rational Test Control Panel earlier than 8.5.1.1, Show all rules is displayed. If you are using Rational Test Control Panel 8.5.1.1 or later, Show rules is displayed.
  5. Click Close to close the Proxy routing rules or Proxy details pop-up window.
Note: Proxy console output is not viewable in Rational Test Control Panel, so you must view the console output of a proxy on the computer where it is running.
