Application Builder result export feature lets the end
user export raw data from the data store for further analysis.
Exporting results lets users take advantage of external and offline applications to analyze
the content that they have discovered through Application Builder. When exporting, Application Builder takes the raw data from
the data store and delivers it to the user in the CSV, XML, or JSON format. No preprocessing
of the content is performed.
The export feature can be enabled or disabled from the Global Application Options page. Once enabled, the fields that are exported
from individual entities can be defined in the Entity Search Options section of the Entity configuration
page. When configuring the export function, consider the following:
- The export feature exports the result information from the data store. It does not export
the original source.
- The exported fields are returned as the raw data. Custom configuration from the Entity
configuration page is not applied.
- When enabled, all entities can be exported, and, by default, all fields from all entities
are exported. Ensure that sensitive information is not exported by limiting the exported
fields for each entity in the Entity Search Options for
that entity.
There are two ways for a user to export results in an application created with Application Builder
- Exporting Search Results
- When the export feature is enabled, the Export Results option is
displayed at the top of the search results widget. Clicking this option lets the user
decide how many results to export and in what format the exported results will be
delivered (CSV, XML, or JSON). Results with the highest relevance are exported first.
- Exporting Workspaces
- When the export feature is enabled and the workspaces feature is enabled, and if at
least one item is available in the shared content widget, the Export content
icon is available in the heading of the entity information widget. Clicking this option lets the
user decide how many results to export (results with the highest relevance being exported first),
and in what format the exported results will be delivered (CSV, XML, or JSON).
Note: Instances of
entities that are configured to not be searchable can still be exported if a user adds that entity
instance to a workspace.
