Configuring high availability on Windows

After you install a high availability server on Windows, you must configure the server for use with Microsoft Cluster Service (MSCS).

Before you begin

Before you begin this procedure, ensure that MSCS is set up correctly on a Microsoft 2008 R2 64-bit cluster server.

Procedure

To configure high availability:

  1. For any required resources, such as the storage device on which you installed the Watson Explorer Content Analytics data directory, ensure that the resources are online on the master server.
  2. Shut down cluster 2.
  3. Install Watson Explorer Content Analytics on cluster 1. The installation directory (ES_INSTALL_ROOT) must be on local storage. The data directory (ES_NODE_ROOT) must be a shared resource that is managed by MSCS.
  4. Shut down cluster 1 and start cluster 2.
  5. Install Watson Explorer Content Analytics on cluster 2. The installation directory (ES_INSTALL_ROOT) must be on local storage. The data directory (ES_NODE_ROOT) must be a shared resource that is managed by MSCS. When the installation program prompts you to overwrite the data directory, click Ignore and allow data to be installed in the same directory.
  6. Shut down cluster 2.
  7. Start cluster 1, wait a few minutes, and then start cluster 2.
  8. On cluster 1, log in as a Windows Administrator. Run the ES_INSTALL_ROOT\bin\esharesource.vbs script to create a cluster service for Watson Explorer Content Analytics.
  9. On cluster 2, log in as a Windows Administrator. Run the ES_INSTALL_ROOT\bin\esharesource.vbs script to add cluster 2 as an owner of the Watson Explorer Content Analytics service.
  10. On cluster 1, start the Watson Explorer Content Analytics system by using the First Steps program or by entering the command esadmin system startall.
  11. On cluster 1, log in to the Watson Explorer Content Analytics administration console.
  12. On the System page, add cluster 2 as a backup server in the system topology.
