Configuring high availability on AIX

After you install a high availability server on AIX®, you must configure the master server and the high availability server for use with IBM® PowerHA®.

Before you begin

Ensure that the administrator ID and password are the same on both the master and backup servers.

Procedure

To configure high availability:

  1. On each server, enter the esadmin stop and stopccl commands to stop the system.
  2. On each server, enter the rmitab ffq command as the root user to remove the common communication layer (CCL) service entry from the /etc/inittab file.
  3. For any required resources, such as the storage device on which you installed the Watson Explorer Content Analytics data directory, ensure that the resources are online on the master server.
  4. In the AIX System Management Interface Tool (SMIT), add an application server for each cluster. Configure the application servers with the following values:
    Server Name
Enter a unique name for each server, such as Watson controller.
    Start Script
    Enter ES_INSTALL_ROOT/bin/startcclha.sh.
    Stop Script
    Enter ES_INSTALL_ROOT/bin/stopcclha.sh.
  5. Optional: Add custom application monitors to detect conditions other than termination of the process. Configure the custom application monitors with the following values:
    Monitor Method
    Enter ES_INSTALL_ROOT/bin/monitorccl.sh.
    Monitor Interval
Enter 60 or higher depending on the server performance.
    Stabilization Interval
Enter 60 or higher depending on the server performance.
  6. Create a resource group that contains the master server and backup server, and make dependencies on any other required resource such as the storage device on which you installed the Watson Explorer Content Analytics data directory.
  7. Add the application servers to the resource group.
  8. Synchronize the cluster configuration.

What to do next

After you configure the servers for use with IBM PowerHA, use the administration console on the master server to add the high availability servers to the system as a backup server.
