See what's new:
New in Rational Publishing Engine 2.0 is the Rational Publishing Engine web app. You can use the web app to build, generate, and view documents. The app contains both a web user interface and a document generation service.
- Report designers can upload templates that they created in Document Studio along with stylesheets into the web app. They can assemble the templates into reports and create data source connections.
- Everyday users can then generate documents from the reports with no template coding knowledge or configuration required.
If you use the web app, you might not need the remote services applications, unless you need to connect directly to the desktop client.
2.0 web app capabilities - Report designers
Report designers can hide complexity from everyday users:
- Combine one or more templates to create reports.
- Create draft reports.
- Create data source connections.
- Configure document properties for data sources, variables, output, and metadata. For example, you can set default data source connections for reports, rename data sources and variables with meaningful names, or hide data sources and variables from end users.
- Report on projects that have configuration management enabled.
2.0 web app capabilities - Everyday users
With the web app, everyday users do not need to install the Rational Publishing Engine desktop application or remote service applications to generate or manage documents.
- Generate documents with minimal steps.
- Alerts notify you when document generation is completed, with links to the documents.
- Download all document generation results or individual file types.
- Schedule document generation jobs to run at a specific time or interval.
- Share documents through unique URLs.
Desktop application enhancements
- Outline bookmark property for PDF output is now available. This allows your PDF documents to have bookmarks for each section in the Bookmark pane of the PDF.
