WebSphere Commerce, Sterling Order Management, and Sterling Configurator integration overview

The integration between WebSphere® Commerce, Sterling Order Management, and Sterling Configurator provides end-to-end support for dynamic kits.

The integration combines the following functionality to enable you to manage dynamic kits through the order lifecycle from configuration to capture to fulfillment:
  • WebSphere Commerce provides industry-leading front-end selling capabilities. By integrating with Sterling Configurator, WebSphere Commerce shows customizable options in the storefront for the WebSphere Commerce customer to choose.
  • Sterling Configurator maintains and provides dynamic kit information to the customer.
  • Sterling Order Management provides back-end order and inventory management capabilities for the fulfillment of orders containing dynamic kits.

The following diagrams show the flow of dynamic kit data between Sterling Configurator, WebSphere Commerce, and Sterling Order Management.

Figure 1 shows the storefront interaction between Sterling Configurator and WebSphere Commerce.

  1. The store redirects to Sterling Configurator. The Dynamic kit model is passed to the Sterling Configurator. Sterling Configurator looks up the Dynamic kit model information.
  2. GetItemList user exit calls the GetCatalogNavigationView service from WebSphere Commerce. The GetCatalogNavigationView service returns catalog information.
  3. GetItemPrice user exit calls the GetEntitledPrice service from WebSphere Commerce. The GetEntitledPrice returns price information.
  4. Sterling Configurator shows the product and price information to the customer.
  5. The customer selects the wanted components to add to the cart. The extraPicsFromConfigurationBOM and generateConfigurationBOM services are called.
  6. After the components are added to the cart, the components move to shipping, payment and order summary. The extraPicsFromConfigurationBOM and generateConfigurationBOM services are called.

After the dynamic kit is added to the shopping cart, data is exchanged between WebSphere Commerce and Sterling Order Management, as shown in Figure 2.
