Enterprise Edition setup roadmap

An overview of the tasks that are required for setting up and then configuring IBM® Data Server Manager (DSM) Enterprise Edition.

About this task

Use the setup roadmap to get a high-level overview of the DSM Enterprise Edition setup and configuration process. The Enterprise Edition of the product includes the complete product feature set, such as accessing historical metrics, managing client configurations, tuning statements. These features require that you create a repository database and configure your client computers with IBM InfoSphere® Optim™ Data Tools Runtime Client. Follow the links to see the setup topics.

Procedure

To set up and configure DSM Enterprise edition:

  1. Go to Installing and upgrading IBM Data Server Manager. Here you will find detailed steps on how to:
    • Download your DSM Advanced Enterprise software package
    • Extract your installation files
    • Install DSM
    • Enable the DSM enterprise level capabilities

Once you have completed these steps, the software is running on your server.

  1. Create a repository database.
  2. Log in to the DSM web console as the default administrative user and configure the product.
    1. Configure the repository database.
      The repository database provides extended product features and enables historical monitoring by storing historical database metrics.
    2. Add databases to monitor and manage.
      You can manually add databases one-by-one, discover existing databases on your servers, or import CSV files with database connection information.
    3. Configure the default monitoring profile or add monitoring profiles.
      To take advantage of the enterprise features you must configure your monitoring profile to persist data, and enable other features.
    4. Add product users.
      Add product user IDs with the role of administrator or user.
  3. Optional: Set up database clients.
    To use the client monitoring and control features, you must install and configure Data Tools Runtime Client on your client servers.
