If you plan to analyze z/OS® performance
data from SMF, install both the z/OS SMF Insight Pack and
the z/OS SYSLOG Insight Pack.
Before you begin
The installation package for the
z/OS SMF Insight Pack is
the compressed file
SMFforzOSInsightPack_v1.0.0.0.zip on
the product DVD with the following label:
- IBM Operations Analytics for z Systems (5698-AAP)
Tip: To verify that your
version of the Insight Pack (including the version of the
z/OS Log Forwarder)
is the latest available version, check for updates on the
IBM® Software
Support site.
About this task
The following procedure summarizes the installation
steps. For complete instructions for installing the Insight Packs,
see the following information in the
Log Analysis documentation:
- Extending IBM Operations Analytics - Log Analysis
- Using the pkg_mgmt command to manage Insight Packs
Important: - IBM Operations Analytics - Log Analysis must
be running when you install the z/OS Insight Packs.
- To install and run the z/OS Insight Packs,
you must be logged in to the Linux computer
system with the non-root user ID that was used to install IBM Operations Analytics - Log Analysis.
Procedure
- Insert the product DVD media into the DVD drive of the Log Analysis server. If the DVD is not mounted automatically, mount it by using one
of the utilities that are provided with the Linux operating system.
- On the Log Analysis server,
create a directory in which to store the Insight Pack. For
example, issue the following command:
mkdir LA_INSTALL_DIR/unity_content/SMFforzOS
- Copy the compressed file for the Insight Pack from the
DVD media into the directory that you created in step 2. For example,
issue the following command:
cp dvd_mountpoint/SMFforzOS/SMForzOSInsightPack_v1.0.0.0.zip
LA_INSTALL_DIR/unity_content/SMFforzOS
- Install the Insight Pack by using the pkg_mgmt.sh command
that is provided with Log Analysis. For example, issue the following command:
LA_INSTALL_DIR/utilities/pkg_mgmt.sh -install
LA_INSTALL_DIR/unity_content/SMFforzOS/SMFforzOSInsightPack_v1.0.0.0.zip
