Upgrading the server

To upgrade an installation of version 5.0 or later, use IBM® Installation Manager Update feature.

Download and extract the files for IBM UrbanCode™ Release to a directory that contains no spaces or double-byte characters. See the IBM UrbanCode Release download document.

  1. Stop the application server if it is running.
  2. Back up the server, including the following files:
    • server_install/opt/tomcat/conf/server.xml
    • server_install/bin/set_env (Linux) or server_install/bin/set_env.bat (Windows)
    • server_install/opt/tomcat/conf/tomcat.keystore

  3. Start IBM Installation Manager.
  4. In IBM Installation Manager, click File > Preferences and then click Repositories.
  5. On the Repositories window, click Add Repository.
  6. In the Add Repository window, select the file diskTag.inf, which is in the UCR/disk1 folder in the launchpad files.
  7. Click OK to close the Add Repository window and then click OK to close the Preferences window.
  8. On the Installation Manager start window, click Update.
  9. Select the package group that includes IBM UrbanCode Release, with the desired release level and then click Next.
  10. Ensure that the correct version of IBM UrbanCode Release is selected and then click Next.
    The Update Packages window, displays the release level being installed and the release level that is currently installed.
  11. On the Licenses page, read and accept the license agreements for the selected products. If you agree to the terms of all of the license agreements, click I accept the terms in the license agreements and then click Next.
  12. Ensure that the appropriate version of IBM UrbanCode Release is selected and then click Next.
  13. If you are upgrading to version 6.1 or later, select the default language for the server and then click Next.
    After installation, each user can select a language; see Setting the language for the server.
  14. On the licensing settings page, in the License server elements field, specify the port and host name for the license server, such as 27000@localhost. Then, click Next.

    Note: This page is not shown if you are upgrading to version 5.
  15. If you are upgrading to version 6.1 or later, to set up a mail server for sending notifications, specify the information for an SMTP server and then click Next.

  16. On the file backup page, read the warnings and follow the instructions for backing up your files.
  17. Click Update.
  18. Restore the files that you backed up in step 2.
