IBM WebSphere Message Broker Monitoring, WebSphere MQ Monitoring, and WebSphere MQ Configuration agents, Version 7.1

Getting started

This chapter gives a brief description of the ITCAM agent for WebSphere® MQ, ITCAM configuration agent for WebSphere MQ, ITCAM agent for WebSphere Message Broker, and their relationship with IBM® Tivoli® Monitoring. It also provides a road map that directs you to different chapters of the book depending on the operating system on which you install these agents.

In IBM Tivoli Monitoring version 6.2.3 or later infrastructure, ITCAM agent for WebSphere MQ and ITCAM agent for WebSphere Message Broker are self-describing agents. The installation process of application support is automated for self-describing agents without the need to recycle Tivoli Management Services servers (hub monitoring server, portal server, and any remote monitoring server) as you must do for earlier versions.

You can enable or disable the self-describing capability by editing the monitoring server and agent environment variables. The monitoring server environment variable (KMS_SDA) controls all agents that connects to it. The agent environment variable (TEMA_SDA) controls the individual agent. For more detailed information about self-describing monitoring agents, see IBM Tivoli Monitoring: Installation and Setup Guide, GC32-9407.
