About this guide

The widespread successful use and availability of your IBM® Tivoli® Monitoring components is the result of a well planned and executed deployment. This guide takes you through the process of deploying and maintaining your IBM Tivoli Monitoring V6.2 environment.

For information on installing, configuring, and upgrading your environment see the IBM Tivoli Monitoring Installation and Setup Guide. The IBM Tivoli Monitoring Administrator's Guide and IBM Tivoli Monitoring User's Guide might also be beneficial in customizing and understanding your environment.

This guide is divided into the following chapters:

• Pre-deployment phase helps you plan for your installation. This chapter also provides you with an overview of the Tivoli Monitoring components, network considerations, sizing scenarios, platform support, as well as task and staffing estimates.
• Deployment phase contains information, procedures, configuration, and reference documents to ensure a successful deployment of your Tivoli Monitoring environment.
• Post-deployment phase provides you with the maintenance steps needed to ensure that your Tivoli Monitoring environment stays up and running. This chapter also provides you with daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly health check procedures.
• Performance tuning discusses considerations for optimizing components within your Tivoli Monitoring environment.
• Appendix. Additional resources provides you with various links to different resources that might be helpful during your Tivoli Monitoring deployment.

Tivoli Monitoring products use a set of service components (known collectively as Tivoli Management Services) that are shared by a number of other product suites, including IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON® XE monitoring products, IBM Tivoli Composite Application Manager products, System Automation for z/OS®, Web Access for Information Management, and others. Much of the information in this guide is also relevant to these products.
