Tivoli Composite Application Manager for SOA, Version 7.1.1

Database support for service-to-service topology and service registry integration

ITCAM for SOA provides support for topology displays with the SOA Domain Management Server and the Tivoli Common Object Repository components, which are used to store and retrieve information about service resources such as application servers, service ports, operations, and the relationships between them. These components also provide integration with service registry and business process information. These service-to-service relationships and flows can then be displayed in Tivoli Enterprise Portal topology workspaces and views. These additional components of ITCAM for SOA are installed in a runtime environment called Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server Extensions, a feature that is provided when you install or upgrade your IBM Tivoli Monitoring environment to version 6.2 or later.

If you plan to use support for displaying service-to-service topology flows in Operational Flow workspaces, you need to configure support for SOA Domain Management Server and its associated database. If you plan to use support for service registry integration, you need to configure support for both SOA Domain Management Server and Tivoli Common Object Repository along with their associated databases, and you also need to install and run one or more of the Discovery Library Adapters provided with this product.

You have the option of configuring the SOA Domain Management Server to operate with or without the Tivoli Common Object Repository database. ITCAM for SOA also includes a graphical user interface configuration utility to help you create and configure the SOA Domain Management Server and the Tivoli Common Object Repository databases. On Windows®, Linux®, and AIX® operating systems, console mode and silent mode (using a response file) are also supported.

The SOA Domain Management Server database, containing information about service-to-service relationships, can be created on either a supported DB2® server or a supported Microsoft® SQL server. This server can be the same database server used by Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server if located on the same computer as Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server, or this server can be located on a separate, remote computer.

The Tivoli Common Object Repository database that contains service registry and business process integration data must be created on a supported DB2 database server. The DB2 server can be installed on either the Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server computer or on a different, remote database server.

You can have the SOA Domain Management Server Configuration Utility create these databases for you locally, or you can create them yourself on local or remote database servers, using database creation scripts provided with the product. If you create your own databases manually, you still need to run the SOA Domain Management Server Configuration Utility on the Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server to complete the configuration of topology support.

See Configuring topology support for more information about creating databases, creating database users, and running the SOA Domain Management Server Configuration Utility. You might need to consult your local database administrator for assistance with these tasks.
