Tivoli Composite Application Manager for SOA, Version 7.1.1

Data collector considerations

As you plan to upgrade or install IBM Tivoli Composite Application Manager for SOA into your runtime environment, note that you must disable and re-enable data collection during the upgrade process. Due to shared code between supported runtime environments (IBM WebSphere Application Server, JBoss, and BEA WebLogic Server in particular), be sure to follow this general procedure when upgrading existing runtime environments:

  1. Disable data collection for any existing ITCAM for SOA data collector runtime environments before upgrading or installing ITCAM for SOA version 7.1.1. Refer to your current ITCAM for SOA documentation for specific procedures on disabling data collection for your supported runtime environments.
  2. Upgrade or install your ITCAM for SOA product to version 7.1.1, following the procedures in this guide.
  3. Re-enable data collection after installation completes for these existing runtime environments that are deployed on the same system, to ensure that all data collectors on the local computer system are running at the same product level for all runtime environments. See Configuring for data collection details on enabling your runtime environments for data collection.

The computer systems on which you install ITCAM for SOA might already have applications (or servers, depending on your runtime environment) enabled for other ITCAM for SOA data collectors. Any combination of supported ITCAM for SOA data collector types (for WebSphere®, JBoss, DataPower®, and others) can coexist on a single system, however each data collector type must be operating at the same level on any one system. You can enable applications (or servers) for as many environment types as you choose. Note that throughout this document we refer to enabling applications for data collection, but for environments such as WebSphere, assume we are referring to enabling the server.

User permissions: Enabling and disabling data collection requires the user to have permissions to update the application server environment. See Configuring for data collection for details on the requirements for each unique application server environment.
