Before you begin a VSS instant restore operation, you must close any applications or windows that are open.
VSS requires that data must always be restored to the same drive letters and paths as existed during the original backup. Backups must be on the same IBM® Systems Storage SAN Volume Controller, DS8000®, the XIV® system, or IBM Storwize® V7000 storage subsystem to which they are restored. VSS restore operations support restoring one or more databases from a VSS snapshot backup on local shadow volumes that are managed by Tivoli® Storage FlashCopy® Manager.
Microsoft hotfix KB 952790 is required when you run VSS instant restore operations in a Windows Server non-cluster environment.
For SQL, custom application, and file system data, restores can be run in a Microsoft Windows Failover Clustering environment. Parallel VSS restore operations are not supported on Microsoft Windows Server.
