Before planning to suspend a logical partition, verify that the server supports
partitions that are capable of partition suspension by using the Hardware Management Console (HMC).
The Suspend/Resume feature for logical partitions is supported on POWER8® processor-based servers when the firmware is at level FW840,
or later.
To verify that the server supports partition suspension, complete the following
steps:
- In the navigation pane, open Systems Management and
select Servers.
- Select the server in the work pane.
- From the Tasks menu, select Properties.
- Click the Capabilities tab.
- If Partition Suspend Capable is True, the server
supports suspending a partition.
- If Partition Suspend Capable is False, the server
does not support suspending a partition.
The HMC Classic interface is
not supported in Hardware Management Console (HMC) Version 8.7.0, or later. The functions that were previously
available in the HMC Classic interface are now available in
the HMC Enhanced+ interface.

HMC is at version 8.7.0, or later,
complete the following steps to verify that the server supports partition suspension:
- In the navigation pane, click the Resources icon .
- Click All Systems. The All Systems page is
displayed.
- In the work pane, select the system and click . The Properties page is displayed.
- Click Licensed Capabilities. The Licensed Capabilities page lists the
features that are supported by the server.
- In the Licensed Capabilities page, verify the list of features displayed.
- If Partition Suspend Capable is marked by the icon, the server supports suspending a logical partition.
- If Partition Suspend Capable is marked by the icon, the server does not support suspending a logical partition.
- Click OK.
