Initial server setup

Create your own end-to-end setup checklist to initially set up your server. The checklist is intended to ensure that the system is capable of starting and that it is functional before you perform more complex and custom configurations.

If you have a System p® server and plan to upgrade your server, see Upgrades and complete the required upgrade tasks. If you have a System i® server and plan to upgrade your server or migrate data, see Migrating or upgrading your server and complete the required upgrade or migration tasks. If you have a POWER6™ server, see the Support for IBM® Systems Web site at http://www.ibm.com/systems/support/. If you have a model 6xx server, see the IBM System p and AIX Information Center Web site at http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/pseriesLink outside information center. If you have a model 8xx server, see the IBM i5/OS Information Center Web site at http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/iseries/Link outside information center.

Attention: The SCSI Adapter for External Media Devices (2768) feature is not supported in any IBM System i5® and eServer™ i5 models (system unit or expansion unit). Damage to the server hardware might occur if the 2768 feature is installed.
Note: If you are attaching a model 5786 or 5787 disk-drive enclosure to your system, specific cabling instructions are needed. For more information, see Expansion units.
