Suspending a Metro Mirror or Global Copy relationship

You can suspend a Metro Mirror or Global Copy relationship.

Before you begin

You must resume a volume pair after suspending it to allow operations to continue.

About this task

To get access to the target volumes or for maintenance of the remote storage unit, you can suspend (pause) the Metro Mirror or Global Copy volume pair. Metro MirrorMetro Mirror or Global Copy stops transferring data to the target volume. The source storage unit keeps track of all changed data on the source volume, and after you resume the connection, only the changes to the source volume are copied to the target volume.

Procedure

Complete the following steps from the DS Storage Manager to suspend a Metro Mirror or Global Copy relationship:

  1. In the navigation, select Copy Services > Metro Mirror/Global Copy. The Metro Mirror/Global Copy main page is displayed.
  2. Select one or more volumes to suspend. Select Suspend from the Action menu. The Suspend Metro Mirror/Global Copy window opens.
  3. Select the volumes to suspend, based on the following criteria:
    • Suspend at Source: The suspension is issued to the source volume in a Metro Mirror relationship. As a result, the target volume becomes suspended immediately.
    • Suspend at Target: The suspension is issued to the target volume in a Metro Mirror relationship. As a result, the target volume becomes suspended, but the source might not. Use this option only in a disaster situation when the source LSS is no longer available.
  4. Click Suspend to complete the process.
