Server evacuation

You can perform a server evacuation operation by using the Hardware Management Console (HMC) that is at Version 7 Release 7.8.0, or later. A server evacuation operation is used to migrate all migration capable logical partitions from one system to another. Any upgrade or maintenance operations can be performed after all the partitions are migrated and the source system is powered off.

You can migrate all the migration capable AIX®, Linux, and IBM® i partitions from the source server to the destination server by running the following command from the HMC command line:
migrlpar –o m –m srcCec -t dstCec --all
Note: The following conditions apply for a partition that is considered as migration capable:
  • The source server must not have any inbound or outbound migration operations that are in progress.
  • The destination server must not have any outbound migration operations that are in progress.
  • The HMC must be at Version 7 Release 7.8.0, or later.
To stop the migration of all the migration capable AIX, Linux, and IBM i partitions, run the following command from the HMC command line:
migrlpar –o s -m srcCec --all
