Adding the reserved storage device in the destination server

To ensure that you can migrate partitions that are capable of remote restart, you must add the reserved storage device that is mapped to the partition on the source server to the reserved storage pool in the destination server.

You must be a super administrator to perform this task.

When you want to assign a reserved storage device to the storage pool, you must consider the size of the storage device that is required. The size is based on several configuration attributes. You can run the lsrsdevsize command from the HMC command line to determine the size of the storage device that is required for the partitions that you plan on using on your system.

The HMC Classic interface is not supported in Hardware Management Console (HMC) Version 8.7.0, or later. The functions that were previously available in the HMC Classic interface are now available in the HMC Enhanced+ interface.

For more information about managing reserved storage devices when the HMC is at version 8.7.0, or later, see Managing reserved storage device pools.

To add the reserved storage device to the reserved storage pool in the destination server, complete the following steps from the HMC:
  1. In the navigation pane, expand Systems Management and click Servers.
  2. In the work pane, select the destination server.
  3. From the Tasks menu, click Configuration > Virtual Resources > Reserved Storage Device Pool Management, or Configuration > Virtual Resources > Shared Memory Pool Management, as applicable. The Reserved Storage Device Pool Management window or the Shared Memory Pool Management window is displayed.
    • If the Reserved Storage Device Pool Management window is displayed, complete the following steps:
      1. Click Edit Pool.
      2. Click Select Devices. The Reserved Storage Device Selection window is displayed.
    • If the Shared Memory Pool Management window is displayed, complete the following steps:
