Defining the partition profile policy for inactive partition mobility

You can select the partition profile policy for inactive partition mobility in the Hardware Management Console (HMC). You can either select the partition state defined in the hypervisor, or select the configuration data defined in the last activated profile on the source server. By default, the partition state defined in the hypervisor is selected.

When the HMC is at version 8.5.0, or later, you can specify an inactive profile policy for a single or multiple partition migration, or you can specify different inactive profile policies for each inactive partition to perform multiple partition migration by using the HMC command-line interface. The inactive profile policy is set for a server and thereafter the policy that is configured on the server is used for all subsequent inactive partition migration operations.

The HMC Classic interface is not supported in Hardware Management Console (HMC) Version 8.7.0, or later. The functions that were previously available in the HMC Classic interface are now available in the HMC Enhanced+ interface.

For more information about defining a policy for inactive partition mobility when the HMC is at version 8.7.0, or later, see Managing system properties.

To define a policy for inactive partition mobility, complete the following tasks:

  1. In the navigation pane, open Systems Management and select Servers.
  2. In the work pane, select the source server.
  3. From the Tasks menu, select Properties.
  4. Click the Migration tab.
    • To use the partition state that is defined in the hypervisor for memory and processor-related settings, select Partition Configuration in the Inactive profile migration policy list. However, if you are unable to start the partition, the data defined in the last activated profile on the source server is used, even though you select the Partition Configuration option.
    • To use the data defined in the last activated profile on the source-managed system for memory and processor-related settings, select Last Activated Profile in the Inactive profile migration policy list.
  5. Click OK.
