IBM Spectrum Control 5.2.x - Hardware Support: Memory, Processor and Disk Space

Product Documentation

Abstract

What are the hardware requirements for IBM Spectrum Control™? How much memory, process and disk space do I need for managing my storage environment?

Content

Important Note:

IBM Spectrum Control 5.2.x has reached end of support.  See the end of support notification for details:

Server:
Processor Microsoft Windowsand Linux®
Intel Xeon 4 processor cores - 2.5 GHz or greater
2 Intel Xeon L5520 8 processor cores - 2.27 GHz or greater

IBM AIX®
POWER5™, POWER6™, POWER7™, POWER8™ or later systems with 4 or 8 processor cores

Recommended
Memory
32 GB RAM

In an evaluation environment with a limited number of volumes, subsystems, fabrics, switches, ports, agents or agentless servers being monitored, you may not require 32 GB RAM, but at least 16 GB is recommended.

Disk space Windows
15 GB of available disk space

Linux
15 GB of available disk space

/usr
/var
/home
/tmp
/opt

If Red Hat Enterprise Linux is configured so that the above directories are individual file systems, each file system must have the following available space:

/usr 1 GB
/var 2 GB
/home 3 GB
/tmp 1 GB
/opt 8 GB

AIX
/usr - 220 MB
/var - 1 MB
/home - 2.75 GB
/tmp - 700 MB
/opt - 18 GB

Significant additional disk space of 40 - 80 GB is required for database and log files after data collection has started. The amount needed depends on:
  • the number of devices being managed
  • the length of time data is kept
  • how frequently data is collected

Refer to section 3.15 in the IBM Tivoli Storage Productivity Center Beyond the Basics publication for repository sizing formulas that can be used with IBM Spectrum Control.

Tip for all operating systems: You do not need to manually create any subdirectories when you install Spectrum Control.

Cognos Analytics 11 Review the Cognos Analytics supported software environments:

Cognos Business Intelligence Reporting 10.2.x No longer supported. See information below.

Storage Resource Agents:
Processor Pentium 400 MHZ processor or higher

Memory 256 MB of RAM

Disk space Approximately 350 MB of hard disk space

Cognos 10.2 end of support (EOS) was April 30, 2018
Cognos Business Intelligence Reporting 10.2.x, along with Jazz for Service Management and the Tivoli Common Reporting component, are now end of service. The information below is for historical reference only.

IBM Spectrum Control 5.2.15.2 is the last release that supports Cognos 10.2.x. IBM Spectrum Control 5.2.16 and later support Cognos Analytics 11. For more information see the Cognos end of support dates: https://www.ibm.com/software/support/lifecycleapp/PLCDetail.wss?q45=L030160L12183F00

Disk space for Jazz for Service Management and Tivoli Common Reporting Disk space requirements for each server on which you plan to install Jazz for Service Management and Tivoli Common Reporting:

If you are using downloaded installation packages from Passport Advantage Online or IBM Fix Central, the downloaded packages must be unpacked to a local disk or file system on each server on which you install these two components.

Windows
  • 5 GB free disk space on the C: drive for temporary installation files and other necessary files that will remain on the server.
  • 10 GB additional free disk space on the target installation disk for the Jazz for Service Management and Tivoli Common Reporting program files.
  • Additional free disk space for the installation images, including the images that you download and the resulting unpacked files; this might require as much as 10 GB additional free disk space.

AIX and Linux
  • 5 GB free disk space on the root file system for temporary installation files and other necessary files that will remain on the server.
  • 10 GB additional free disk space on the target installation disk for the Jazz for Service Management and Tivoli Common Reporting program files.
  • Additional free disk space for the installation images, including the images that you download and the resulting unpacked files; this might require as much as 10 GB additional free disk space.
