Software updates

The following list describes the updates to InfoSphere Information Server, Version 9.1.2, by component:

InfoSphere DataStage and QualityStage

  • Enhanced ODBC support in InfoSphere Data Click. In InfoSphere Data Click, you can now use the simple self-service data integration features to move data between an expanded set of data store types. In this release, all ODBC drivers are supported in InfoSphere Data Click, including DB2, Oracle, Teradata, Netezza and many others. The drivers support reading and writing use cases.
  • JSON transformation. You can now use the XML stage to create powerful hierarchical transformations, as well as parse and compose JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) data with high performance and scalability. JSON is a light weight data interchange format for the representation of structured data. For more information, see JSON transformation.
  • New rule sets for InfoSphere QualityStage. You can use new Ireland rule sets and Thailand rule sets in jobs that standardize data for the specific countries. You use the rule sets with the Investigate and Standardize stages to process name and address input data. A rule set to process Indian names has been added to the India rule sets. For more information, see Predefined rule sets.
  • Big Data File stage. You can now read and write files in the InfoSphere BigInsights Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS) by connecting via the Representational State Transfer (REST) architectural style for the Big Data File stage. For more information, see Big Data File stage

Information Governance Dashboard

You can use Information Governance Dashboard and the companion SQL views to create reports that monitor the implementation of your information governance policies and information governance rules. The reports show the relationships to data rules and data rule sets that are created in IBM® InfoSphere® Information Analyzer, to database tables and columns. The reports also show relationships between information governance assets, stewards that are responsible for assets, and terms that the assets are assigned to.

Information Governance Dashboard provides a set of sample Cognos reports that you can use or customize for your own information governance environment. You can also create ad hoc reports by dragging and dropping report elements in the Cognos workspace. You can use the sample Framework Manager model to understand the query subjects that the reports are based on.

If you used a different reporting tool, such as SAP BusinessObjects, or if you want to create your own reports independently of a tool, you can use the SQL views to create reports. The SQL views offer the ability to query governance-related metadata in the metadata repository of InfoSphere Information Server.

For more information, see Reporting on information governance

Connectivity for DataStage and QualityStage

  • JDBC connector. You can use the new JDBC connector to connect to many JDBC data sources and perform data access and metadata import operations on them. For more information, see JDBC data sources.

Note: In Version 9.1.2, the JDBC connector is not translated. For languages other than English, the connector is in a different section of the palette and repository tree than other connectors. In the repository tree, the connector is in the Stage types > Parallel > Database > JDBC Connector folder.
  • DB2 connector optimized for DB2 for z/OS. The DB2 connector is now enhanced for bulk loading to DB2 for z/OS. For more information, see DB2 connector properties for bulk loading to z/OS.
  • ODBC connector enhancements. The ODBC connector now fully supports automatically generated CREATE TABLE SQL statements for Binary, VarBinary and LongVarBinary InfoSphere DataStage data types.
  • Netezza connector enhancements. The Netezza connector now supports the VARBINARY and ST_GEOMETRY binary data types when connected to Netezza 7.0 or later.
  • Support for new data sources. The following connectors and stages are now available:
  • Big Data File stage for IBM BigInsight 2.0 and Cloudera CH4.0 and 4.2, HortonWorks 1.2
  • DB2 connector for IBM DB2 for Linux, UNIX, and Microsoft Windows, Version 10.1
  • DB2 connector for IBM DB2 for z/OS, Version 10
  • IBM WebSphere ILOG JRules connector for IBM WebSphere ILOG-JRules 7.1.x and WODM 8.0.x
  • IBM WebSphere MQ connector for IBM WebSphere® MQ, Version 7.1.x and 7.5.x
  • Informix stage for IBM Informix, Version 11.7
  • InfoSphere Streams connector for IBM InfoSphere Streams 3.0
  • JDBC connector for JDBC data sources
  • Netezza connector for Netezza Performance Server 6.0.x, 7.0.x
  • ODBC connector for DataDirect ODBC, Version 7.0.x
  • Oracle connector for Oracle Database 11g Release2
  • SQL Server stage for Microsoft SQL Server 2012
  • Sybase stage for Sybase ASE, Version 15.7 and Sybase IQ, Version 15.4
  • Teradata connector for Teradata Database 13.10, 14.0, and 14.10

InfoSphere Business Glossary
  • Workflow enhancements. A development log and two new workflow roles, Reviewer and Approver, are now available. Security roles have been changed. You can now add comments at every stage of the workflow process. For details, see Workflow management.
  • Enhanced integration with InfoSphere Information Analyzer. The following data rule asset types from InfoSphere Information Analyzer are now displayed in the Browse All Assets page:

    • Unpublished data rule definitions
    • Unpublished data rule set definitions
    • Data rules
    • Data rule sets
When you click Data Rule Definitions or Data Rule Set Definitions in the Browse All Assets page, the published and unpublished assets are listed with different icons. You can assign terms, stewards, notes, and labels to these assets. You can assign these assets to information governance rules. Unpublished data rules can include bindings to database columns. As a result, you can now navigate from an information governance rule to its data rule and then to the database columns on which the data rule runs.

InfoSphere Metadata Asset Manager

  • Create related database schema on physical model import. You can now create a related database schema when you import physical models from design tools. For more information, see Identity parameters for imported assets.
  • Support for imports of metadata from InfoSphere Data Architect, V8.5. For more information, see IBM InfoSphere Data Architect MetaBroker - imports.
  • Support for bridge and connector imports on the command line. For more information, see Importing assets by using the command line.
  • Support for the JDBC Connector. The JDBC Connector imports implemented data resources, including database schemas and database tables, from relational database management systems and other data sources that are supported by JDBC. For more information, see JDBC data sources.
  • Performance enhancements. Release 9.1.2 has improved metadata import speed for bridges and connectors.

Documentation updates

The InfoSphere Information Server documentation has been updated in the following ways:

Enhanced Overview of InfoSphere DataStage. The overview now describes the lifecycle of an InfoSphere DataStage job, including developing, testing, deploying, and operating jobs, and it presents over twenty sample job patterns that you can use to solve real business problems. The examples include jobs that extract and load data, transform data, enrich data, and cleanse data, and jobs that focus on real-time and big data processing. To get started, see Overview of InfoSphere DataStage.

Improved organization of connectivity information. Information about older or deprecated stages for connectivity is now available in a separate section of the information center. For more information, see Older stages of connectivity. Configuration information for the connectors is now consolidated in one section. For more information, see Configuring access to data sources.

Improved documentation for connectors and stages. Error messages and environment variable information is improved in the information center.
  • New sections were added that describe error messages for the following connectors: JDBC, Netezza, ODBC, Oracle, and Teradata connectors. For example, see Netezza connector messages.
  • Sections describing environment variables were added for the following stages and connectors: CDC Transaction, Java Integration, and Distributed Transaction stages, and DB2, IBM WebSphere MQ, Netezza, ODBC, and Oracle connectors. For example, see Environment variables: Oracle connector.
