Publish and distribute fails when you start Cognos Insight from Cognos TM1

Abstract

In an environment that includes specific versions of IBM Cognos Business Intelligence and IBM Cognos TM1, when you install and launch Cognos Insight from Cognos TM1, you cannot publish and distribute workspaces.

In the following specific situation, the Publish and Distribute function in Cognos Insight fails:

  • You are using Cognos BI 10.2.1 or Cognos BI 10.2.1.1 (also known as Cognos BI 10.2.1 Fix Pack 1).
  • You are using Cognos TM1 10.1.1.1 (also known as Cognos TM1 10.1.1 Fix Pack 1).
  • You install and launch Cognos Insight from the IBM Cognos TM1 Applications portal.

This issue occurs because the version of Cognos Insight that is included with Cognos TM1 10.1.1.1 is Cognos Insight 10.2, which cannot publish and distribute workspaces to Cognos BI 10.2.1.

Solution

Start Cognos Insight from IBM Cognos Connection on the Cognos BI server. This starts Cognos Insight 10.2.0.1 (also known as Cognos Insight 10.2 Fix Pack 1). Cognos Insight 10.2.0.1 can publish and distribute workspaces to Cognos BI 10.2.1. Once you have started this version of Cognos Insight, starting Cognos Insight from Cognos TM1 will launch the correct version.

An alternative solution is to uninstall Cognos Insight from your computer, and then install Cognos Insight Standard Edition 10.2.0.1 (also known as Cognos Insight 10.2 Fix Pack 1).
