Abstract

IBM Support Assistant Team Server provides a tooling platform for running problem determination tools. This document explains how to install and update tools for IBM Support Assistant Team Server.

There are two methods for managing the life cycle of problem determination tools for IBM Support Assistant Team Server. Both methods let you easily discover, install, and update individual tools.

    • IBM Support Assistant Tools Administration
    • IBM Installation Manager

You must have IBM Support Assistant Team Server installed before you can install problem determination tools. These instructions assume the IBM Support Assistant Team Server repository is configured in IBM Installation Manager. See "Installing IBM Support Assistant Team Server" for details.

Installing and updating tools with Tools Administration
Guidance for administering problem determination tools is documented in the IBM Support Assistant Team Server 5.0 Knowledge Center. Follow these steps to find the documentation for administering tools.
  1. Start IBM Support Assistant Team Server 5.0.
  2. Use a supported browser to start a session with IBM Support Assistant.
  3. Click the circled question mark ('?') in the title bar and select "Help Center" from the menu. The Knowledge Center opens in a new tab.
  4. Click "Finding and installing tools" in the list of common tasks on the Welcome page. You can also use the Table of Contents to navigate to the Tool Administration documentation.

Installing new problem determination tools with IBM Installation Manager
  1. Start IBM Installation Manager.
  2. Select Install from the IBM Installation Manager panel.
  3. Select the IBM Support Assistant Tool offerings you would like to install, then click Next.
  4. Read and accept the license terms, then click Next.
  5. Select the IBM Support Assistant package group, then click Next.
  6. Confirm the problem determination tools you want to install, then click Next.
  7. Review the installation summary, then click Install.
  8. After installation completes, click Finish and close IBM Installation Manager.

Updating problem determination tools with IBM Installation Manager
  1. Start IBM Installation Manager.
  2. Select Update from the IBM Installation Manager panel.
  3. Select the IBM Support Assistant package group, then click Next.
  4. Select the problem determination tool package and version you would like to update, then click Next.
  5. Read and accept the license terms, then click Next.
  6. Confirm the problem determination tools you want to update, then click Next.
  7. Review the update summary, then click Update.
  8. After the update completes, click Finish and close IBM Installation Manager.
