Prerequisites:
- This fix pack may only be applied to Rational Change 5.3 or any of its previous fix packs which must be installed and operational.
- Rational Synergy Fix Pack 7.2.0.2 is a must requirement for the OSLC related fixes to work.
Installation Instructions:
1. Log in to the machine where Rational Change is installed as the user who installed Rational Change.
2. Unzip (Windows) or untar (UNIX) the patch file into
<CHANGE_APP_HOME>/WEB-INF/packages
. The resultant directory will have the name "rc<patch version>".For example, on UNIX:
$ cd <CHANGE_APP_HOME>/WEB-INF/packages
$ tar xvf <file path>
3. Installing the fix pack 5.3.0.3
- Login to Rational Change as Admin, and click the "System Administration" link in the action panel.
- Click on the "Package Installer" tab, select this fix pack from the "Available Packages" listbox, and click the "Install" button.
- Follow the below manual steps which are needed for some of the fixes to work.
a. The 'services' directory delivered with the fix pack is not automatically installed. For this, first take a manual backup of the file <CHANGE_APP_HOME>/WEB-INF/services/ChangeService/META-INF/ChangeService.wsdl and then replace it with the file 'services/ChangeService/META-INF/ChangeService.wsdl' from the fix Pack. - After the patch installation is successful, stop and re-start Rational Change.
b. If Change is installed on Tomcat and when there is a directory in the Change installation path which is same as the context, then manually copy file 'Rational_Change.5.3.FP0.2.fxtag' from the fix pack under '/properties/version' directory into <CHANGE_INSTALLED_DIRECTORY>/properties/version.
c. The 'license_api' directory delivered with the fix pack is not automatically installed. For this, first take a manual backup of the file <CHANGE_APP_HOME>/WEB-INF/lib/32Bit (or 64Bit) directory (Choose the directory according to the bitness of your OS). From the unzipped location (in step2), copy the license_api/32Bit (or 64Bit) directory and replace <CHANGE_APP_HOME>/WEB-INF/lib/32Bit (or 64Bit) directory.
d. If this fix pack is installed on Change running on WASCE, the WASCE server might not start. The work around for this is to extract the jar file <CHANGE_APP_HOME>/WEB-INF/lib/rcl_telelogic.jar and copy its contents directly under <CHANGE_APP_HOME>/WEB-INF/classes. This will start WASCE server and Change.
Note: To see the fix pack components, traverse the directory structure of the fix pack package once it has been expanded.

5. Installing Rational Change Help:
You can manually deploy the changehelp.war from the unzipped Rational Change 5.3.0.3 location (in step 2 ) directly in your web server or you can follow the below instructions to install it from Rational Change installer:
- Login to the machine where Change help needs to be installed.
- Uninstall any already installed Change help server.
- Download Rational Change 5.3 (For more details look into Rational Change 5.3)

Note: Help content has been completely translated in Japanese. In Chinese, only "Installing and upgrading" section and the "Help Home page" are translated. So if you are looking at the Simplified Chinese translation, you will see a mixture of English and Simplified Chinese.

If it is necessary to remove the fix pack and language pack after it was installed, follow these steps.
- Login to Rational Change as Admin, and click the "System Administration" link in the action panel.

b. If Change is installed on Tomcat and when there is a directory in the Change installation path which is same as the context, then delete the file 'Rational_Change.5.3.FP0.2.fxtag' from the directory <CHANGE_INSTALLED_DIRECTORY>/properties/version. - Uninstall the language package: Click on the "Package Installer" tab, select the language pack from the "Installed Packages" listbox, and click the "Uninstall" button.
- Manually replace the directory <CHANGE_APP_HOME>/WEB-INF/lib/32Bit (or 64Bit) with the backed up file during installation
- Stop and start Rational Change.
Known problems
Important known problems new to version 5.3 are discussed below. See also known problems from previous releases, as they may still apply.
ID | Problem/Workaround |
R#38490 | Server registration must be initiated from the central server when mixed releases are used Registration from a pre-5.3 remote server to a 5.3 central server fails if the server encodings are different (which is usually the case unless the remote server is using the Synergy Asian line). The workaround is to perform the registration from the central server. |
R#38474 | Windows service may not start in a timely fashion when using local help The Rational Change service on Windows may not start in a timely fashion when Rational Change and Help are deployed together on Jetty, resulting in the following message: "Could not start the IBM Rational Change 8600 service on Local Computer. Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion." In fact, the service does start, but not within the 125 seconds expected by the Windows service, hence the message. Possible workarounds include: 1. Ignore this error 2. Install Rational Change and Help separately (on different web servers) 3. Use the public Information Center for help rather than a local help server |
R#38401 | release.js script removed The example external listbox script "release.js", and the internal APIs it relied on, have been removed in release 5.3. Version 5.3 automatically updates the release listbox when defined as a "Database Listbox" fetching values from "active_releases", so the script is unnecessary. Remove any references to release.js and set release listbox properties to "Database Listbox". |
R#42402 | Add OSLC consumer behaviour to Change 5.3 Rational Change 5.3.0.3 behaves as a OSLC consumer as well. However this is currently validated with ClearQuest 7.1.1.2 version only. There might be issues with this feature in the later versions of ClearQuest and RTC, which will be addressed in the next fix pack. |
