Support for the Single Client Access Name feature of Oracle Real Application Clusters

Product documentation

Abstract

IBM FileNet P8 5.1.0 supports the Single Client Access Name feature of Oracle Real Application Clusters in a highly available environment.

Content

In a highly available IBM FileNet P8 environment, you can use the Single Client Access Name (SCAN) feature of Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) when you configure Content Engine or create object stores.

In configuring Content Engine or creating an object store, you need to specify a Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) URL to access the Oracle RAC. Without the SCAN feature, the JDBC URL must specify the name of each node in the RAC. With the SCAN feature, you need to specify just a SCAN name to access the RAC.

The current IBM FileNet P8 Information Center topics for configuring Content Engine and creating object stores, listed below, do not use the SCAN feature:

In the "Installing a distributed IBM FileNet P8 Platform system" section of the information center:

In the "Upgrading from version 3.5.2" section of the information center:

In the "Upgrading from 4.0.1 or higher" section of the information center:

In the "Configuring and Deploying IBM Content Navigator" section of the information center:

In each of these topics, replace the current JDBC URL with the following JDBC URL to use the SCAN feature:

jdbc:oracle:thin@(DESCRIPTION = (load_balance=yes)(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = SCAN name)(PORT = 1521))(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP))(CONNECT_DATA =(SERVICE_NAME = DB service name)(failover_mode = (type=select)(method=basic)(retries= retry number)(delay= delay value))))

Also, in each of these topics, when you use the SCAN feature, you must specify Oracle JDBC Driver, not Oracle JDBC Driver (RAC support), as the JDBC driver name when you configure the JDBC data sources for the global configuration database (GCD) or the object store.
