Tivoli Field Guide - Tivoli Storage Manager V6.3 Your First Report Using Cognos

White paper

Abstract

Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) includes within it, the IBM Cognos Business Intelligence offering. Cognos is more than just a reporting tool, it is a business intelligence offering giving the customer real information manipulation and analysis capabilities normally not available in a storage management solution like TSM.

There are two components which make up Cognos Business Intelligence as part of the Tivoli Common Reporting of TSM 6.3. The Query Studio and the Report Studio Query Studio is a tool used to create live-data queries to help the report developer come up with a query that can then be imported into the Reporting Studio. By inserting or dragging/dropping attribute groups (tables) and their attributes (columns) to the query workspace, live-data reports can be quickly created helping to establish the query needed for the job.

Report Studio is a high-powered reporting interface allowing for powerful data manipulation and formatting giving the report developer a lot of flexibility in how reports are designed and used. The Report Studio is the final step for polishing and completing a report that may have begun using the Query Studio. Note that Report Studio functions are too numerous to fully cover in this paper.
