Lotus Notes requirements

Use of a Lotus Notes client to connect to the SmartCloud Notes service is optional. SmartCloud Notes supports the following versions of Lotus Notes.

SmartCloud Notes for Hosted BlackBerry® Services smartphone requirements

If you purchase a SmartCloud Notes for Hosted BlackBerry® Services subscription, users can access the SmartCloud Notes service through BlackBerry® smartphones. BlackBerry® smartphones that run operating system versions 4.0 through 7.x are supported. For best smartphone performance, use the latest operating system version supported by the service and by the smartphone model used.

A user's wireless carrier plan must be an Enterprise plan rather than a Personal plan. A smartphone cannot be activated for the SmartCloud Notes service when a Personal plan is used.

The use of BlackBerry devices with BlackBerry Internet Service is unsupported and results in poor performance and mail synchronization delays. To access SmartCloud Notes from BlackBerry devices, use a SmartCloud Notes for Hosted BlackBerry Services subscription.

SmartCloud Traveler for Notes device requirements

If you purchase an IBM SmartCloud Traveler for Notes subscription, users can access the SmartCloud Traveler for Notes service through mobile devices that meet the requirements described in the following tables.

Note: IBM recommends upgrading the firmware of all Android, Apple, Nokia, and Windows Mobile devices to the latest levels. The specific delivery technique varies widely and depends on the device, the carrier, and many other factors.

If the installation file (SISX file) is manually downloaded to program file storage, it requires an additional 1 MB. This file can be deleted after installation. For service-only companies, the default mobile device security policies that are in place for SmartCloud Notes require that the the Nokia security enablement library be installed on the Nokia s60 series device. This library is available from the Nokia's IBM Lotus Notes Traveler site. Hybrid companies may choose to override the mobile device security policies.

File storage required for PIM and mail is not included in these estimates, varies widely, and depends on how much data is synchronized to the device. Note that during initial setup, you can choose to have some of the data stored on external storage. Trace and log storage required is dependent upon the configuration setting. The default value is 2 MB.

Apple iOS 5	SmartCloud Traveler for Notes supports the same mail, calendar and contact features in iOS5 that are supported in iOS4. New capabilities in iOS5 (e.g. Reminders) are not supported.
Apple iOS 6	SmartCloud Traveler for Notes supports the same mail, calendar and contact features in iOS6 that are supported in iOS5.
iPhone (1st generation)	Not supported since this phone is only capable of running Apple OS 2.x and 3.x and SmartCloud Traveler for Notes requires 4.0.1 or higher.
iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPad, iPad2, iPad3, iPod Touch (3rd generation and higher)	Supported. Note that iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2nd generation or earlier do not support device hardware encryption, so these devices cannot be used if the SmartCloud Traveler for Notes security policy requires encrypted Apple devices.

Nokia Series 60 3rd Edition	SmartCloud Traveler for Notes supports all Nokia Series 60 3rd and 5th edition devices.

Nokia Symbian^3 Edition	Device encryption only supported by Symbian^3 devices and they must be running an operating system level of Symbian Anna release or higher. Nokia Symbian^3 devices do not require a separate download of the Nokia security library required for S60 devices. This support is built into the device.
Windows
Windows Mobile 6.0 Classic	SmartCloud Traveler for Notes supports all Windows Mobile 6.0, 6.1, and 6.5 devices.​ Windows Phone devices (7 and higher) are not supported at this time.
