A step-by-step guide to learn how to set up a clustered Process Server including Business Space and HTTP Server in a production environment on Red Hat Enterprise Linux using Oracle 11g

This document provides an overview on the installation and configuration tasks required for setting up a production runtime environment of a Business Process Management solution. The main focus is on the IBM Business Process Manager and in particular the Process Server using Oracle for persisting data. IBM Business Process Manager allows several topology patterns to address a variety of business scenarios, from a proof-of-concept (POC) design to a fully functional production environment.

The chosen topology for this document provides a production environment with several hosts and clusters comprising clusters for the application deployment target and an infrastructure with dedicated clusters for remote messaging, support and web. The necessary installation and configuration tasks are described with a series of click-by-click instructions extended by configuration related background information. Each major step is completed with a dedicated verification description. All described tasks have been verified on real systems in the IBM Boeblingen test data center based on the following general available software versions:

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.6
  • IBM Business Process Manager V7.5
    including Business Space powered by WebSphere and IBM HTTP Server
  • Oracle 11g Release 2

This version of the document has been produced by the Integration Quality Assurance (IQA) test team in Boeblingen, Germany. The main differences to the predecessor document are:

  • This document describes the setup of a IBM Business Process Manager Advanced 7.5 production runtime environment with a focus on the Process Server.
  • The roles of the different involved administrators (BPM, DBA, SysAdmin) are reflected in the planning section, installation and configuration tasks.
  • The 64-bit versions of the BPM product and components are used including silent installation and configuration by using response files.

Note: The information in this document is intended for Version 7.5.x configurations. Cluster configurations changed significantly in Version 8.0.
