Mobile support and hardware and software requirements to run Web Experience Factory 7.0.1, formerly known as WebSphere Portlet Factory

This page describes mobile support and the minimum product levels that need to be installed before opening a problem report with IBM Web Experience Factory Technical Support (formerly known as WebSphere Portlet Factory).
Mobile operating system and device support
Web Experience Factory provides the capability to develop and produce applications for mobile devices.
Tested and supported mobile device types
The following mobile operating systems and device types are tested and supported.
Apple iOS 4.x (iPhone 3 and 4, iPad 1 and 2, iPod Touch)
Android 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 3.0 (many devices)
BlackBerry OS 6 (BlackBerry Torch 9800, BlackBerry Bold 9780, BlackBerry Style 9670, BlackBerry Pearl)
Note that not all Web Experience Factory builders and features are appropriate for use on mobile touchscreen devices that are listed as tested and supported, For example, the Dojo Drag Source and the Dojo Drop Target builders cannot be used on such devices. Similarly, the Dojo Date/Time picker widget does not work well on touch devices.
For user input fields, the following rich data definition (RDD) libraries are specifically designed and tested for use with mobile devices.

The dojo_mobile_datadef.xml library is designed to use only the Dojo input widgets that work well on mobile touch devices. The basic_mobile_datadef.xml library does not use Dojo.
Builders that are not supported for mobile applications
The following Web Experience Factory builders do not work well on mobile touch devices.

As with any application development tool, it is important to test each application you build to make sure that it works as desired on the device types you want to support.
For the supported device types, note that IBM testing and support applies only to the default browser provided for each device. Other browsers that might be installed onto those devices (for example, by downloading from an app store) are handled as untested and unsupported device types.
About untested and unsupported devices for mobile applications
There are many other smartphone devices available on the market that are not in the list of IBM tested and supported devices. And many of those unsupported devices have good browser support for the core web technologies used by Web Experience Factory: HTML, JavaScript, and CSS. It should be possible to use Web Experience Factory to develop web applications that work on many of the unsupported devices, with the following caveats.
- The default user interface styling, appearance, and user interface controls generated by Web Experience Factory have been designed and tested only for the supported devices.
For example, webkit-specific styles are used in some cases, and these do not render properly on non-webkit browsers. Similarly, the support for specific HTML and JavaScript features can vary widely across devices. Note that the Theme builder and Rich Data Definition builder support in Web Experience Factory can be used to provide central control over much of the HTML, CSS, and JavaScript generated by Web Experience Factory.
- It is the responsibility of the customer to determine which features can be used on the desired devices and to build applications accordingly.
Per IBM support policy, for any problems that are encountered on unsupported devices, it is the responsibility of the customer to first reproduce the problem on a supported device before contacting IBM Support.
Hardware and software requirements
The following software versions and any maintenance levels listed have been explicitly verified as working.
EARLIER LEVEL OF A LISTED SOFTWARE: Software versions at a lower level than those noted on this page are unsupported.
LATER LEVEL OF A LISTED SOFTWARE: Because other products frequently ship fixes, updates, and new releases, testing every configuration is not possible. In general, you can install and run with updates to supported products if those updates are compatible with the tested versions.
UNLISTED SOFTWARE: Software not listed on this page at any level is unsupported.
