Update 4

Date of change: January 18 th, 2012
Topic: Parameters in the inclusion options data set
Change description: Change affecting the ABRCC parameter via APAR PM54687

Under the ABRCC parameter description, remove the sentence, "You can specify ABRCC only as part of a GBL control statement."

Update 3

Date of change: April 25 th, 2011
Topics: Rules for the inclusion options data set, Troubleshooting
Change description: A new record format for the inclusion options data set is available via APAR PM36532

Topic: Rules for the inclusion options data set

Users can specify IJS records in the inclusion options data set to set parameters for a specific IMS job step. These parameters override the global parameters for the specified IMS job step.

Add the following formatting information to the Rules for the inclusion options data set topic:

The following table describes the format of IJS mask entry records. To identify a specific job step that the options apply to, specify values for the IMSID, Job name, PROC step name, Job step name, program name, and the PSB name. The values for all the names must match a specific IMS step in order for the options specified on an IJS statement to be used.

Table 2. IJS mask entry record format
Column Description
1-3 Record type. Must be coded as IJS.
5-8 IMSID. Specifies the name coded for IMSID= for an IMS step. If the IMSID parameter is not specified in the JCL, then IMS Program Restart Facility uses the default IMSID for that environment (as specified in module DFSVC000 in the IMS RESLIB data set).
10-17 Job name. Specifies the name of job or jobs to which the options apply.
19-26 PROC step. Specifies the name of the step coded within a PROC that is run within a job. If a PROC is not used in a job, specify a value of ******** to have the IJS statement apply to such a step.
28-35 Job Step. Specifies the name of the step that runs a PROC.
37-44 Program. Specifies the name of the IMS application program that is being used in an IMS step. This value is specified using symbolic MBR= when running IMS PROCs DLIBATCH, DBBBATCH, or IMSBATCH.
46-53 PSB name. Specifies the name of the IMS PSB being used in an IMS step. This value is specified using symbolic PSB= when executing IMS PROCs DLIBATCH, DBBBATCH, or IMSBATCH.
55-120 Parameters. Used to specify inclusion option parameters for IMS steps that match all the above values.
Tip: Within any IJS field, you can use an asterisk (*) as a wildcard character to indicate any single character.

Topic: Troubleshooting

Add the following message:

IRT040W

INCLDSN SYNTAX ERROR IJS statement

Explanation

A syntax error exists in the inclusion options data set for the IJS statement shown.

System action

The statement is ignored. Processing continues.

User response

Verify the syntax of the IJS statement. The values specified for the IMSID, jobname, step names, program name, and PSB name are all positional parameters that must be coded in specific columns. See the IJS statement syntax information.

Update 2

Date of change: April 25 th, 2011
Topics: Restarting a job on a different version of IMS (new), Troubleshooting
Change description: New feature is available via APAR PM32550 - abended jobs can be restarted on a different version of IMS

Topic: Restarting a job on a different version of IMS
Add the following topic under the Restarting abended IMS batch jobs container:

Restarting a job on a different version of IMS

After you change your IMS version, you can use IMS™ Program Restart Facility to restart a job that abended on a previous IMS version.

Before you begin

This feature is supported only for IMS version 10.1 (with APAR PK46917/UK27322 from PUT 0707) and above.

About this task

If an IMS batch job that is specified for restart processing abends an IMS version 10.1 or higher, you can use IMS Program Restart Facility to restart that batch job on a different IMS version, release, or maintenance level that is version 10.1 or higher.

For example, you can abend a BMP before an IMS upgrade and use IMS Program Restart Facility to restart the job on the new version of IMS without backing out the job and starting it over from the beginning.

The following restrictions apply:

  • If the abended job uses a feature of IMS that is not available in an older IMS version, you might not be able to restart the job on the older IMS version. For example, if a job abends under IMS 12.1 and uses GSAM data sets that are greater than 64,000 tracks in length, it cannot be restarted under IMS 10.1. However, if an older version of IMS has a compatibility APAR for the function of the newer version (in this example, PM15152 for IMS 10.1), IMS Program Restart Facility provides support to restart the job under the older version of IMS.
  • The backout of updates to the last checkpoint must have completed successfully before you attempt to restart the job.
  • The usual restrictions for changes to DBDs apply. You cannot change DBDs between the time of the abend and the time the job is restarted.

Procedure

After changing your IMS version, restart your abended job as described in Restarting a job from the provided checkpoint or Restarting a job from the beginning.

Topic: Troubleshooting

Add the following messages:

IRT039E

User response

Restart the job by using the same version of IMS that was in use before the abend, or restart the job by using a version of IMS that IMS Program Restart Facility provides compatibility for.

IRT040I
