Detailed System Requirements - Sametime Unified Telephony 8.5.2

Product documentation

Abstract

This document contains the detailed system requirements for IBM® Sametime® Unified Telephony 8.5.2

Content

Similar information for Sametime products is located in the following system requirement documents.

Information for Sametime 8.5.2 Interim Feature Release 1 products are located in the following system requirement documents.

The Detailed System Requirements below list supported components that have undergone compatibility testing by IBM. IBM recommends that customers always use operating systems, web browsers, devices or applications listed in the application's system requirements; any variance has some level of risk because the combination has not been tested, and is not supported by IBM. If a supported OS or browser that is listed in the System Requirements has a new version released, IBM Lotus Support may provide support through the IBM PMR process on a case-by-case basis under the guidelines below.
  • IBM Support will accept problem reports (PMRs) relating to using these newer and untested operating systems and browser releases and will validate on a case-by-case basis whether IBM can provide technical support.
  • Any technical support for such nonconforming applications will be provided by IBM on an "as-is" basis. IBM cannot guarantee that any OS or browser not listed in the System Requirements will result in a Sametime code fix, workaround or other satisfactory problem resolution or will be fully supported in a later release of Sametime.

In certain scenarios, Technotes or APARs on the Sametime Support site document known problems or cases where IBM has determined that a particular device, operating system, browser, or software application cannot be integrated with the Sametime software platform without extensive testing or extensive code changes

Storage Area Network Specifications

  • A 4 Gbps Fiber Channel switch can be used if they are compatible with QLE2462 based 4G Fibre Channel Dual Port PCIe HBA (Low profile) card
  • Tested hardware: 249824E - IBM System Storage SAN24B-4 Express
  • For improved redundancy, IBM recommends deployment of two parallel 4 Gbps Fibre Channelswitches.

Network Storage Specifications
External network storage system contains data and binaries for Telephony Application and Media Servers. Two virtual disks are required for each Telephony Application and Media Server.

  • A SAN solution using a compatible QLE2462 based 4G Fibre Channel Dual Port PCIe HBA (Low profile) card can be used with Sametime Unified Telephony.
  • Tested hardware: IBM System Storage DS3400
  • DS3400 - 1726-42X-dual controller with 4 Gbps Fibre Channel (FC) interface
  • Each Telephony Application and off-board Media Server requires 20 GB disk space and 10 GB respectively on two separate physical disks
  • IBM System Storage DS3400 supports combination of 12 SAS or SATA 3.5" drives per enclosure.
  • IBM System Storage DS3400 is scalable to 5.4 TB of storage capacity with 450 GB hot-swappable SAS disks or 12.0 TB with 1.0 TB hot-swappable SATA disks in the first enclosure.
  • IBM System Storage DS3400 is expandable by attaching up to three EXP3000s for a total of 21.6 TB of storage capacity with 450 GB SAS or up to 48.0 TB with 1.0 TB SATA.

Media Server

  • An off-board (separately-installed) Media Server has the same physical configuration as the Telephony Application Server: IBM System x3550 M2/M3 (or equivalent).
  • Up to 3 off-board Media Servers are paired with Telephony Application Servers.
  • In addition, there can be one off-board Media Server that is dedicated for announcements.
  • Each off-board Media Server must have two 4 Gbps Fiber ports for SAN storage connectivity.
  • Each off-board Media Server requires 10GB disk space on each of two separate physical disks in dual controller SAN storage for failover support.
All Applicable Linux OS TCS IBM Lotus Sametime Unified Telephony Connect
IBM System x3550 M3 as specified in the BOM (bill of materials) or x3550 M2 with specific part number: 7946PKQ or the former x3650T with part number 79805CX.
  • x3550M3 as specified in the BOM, or x3550M2 with part number 7946PKQ, or x3650T with part number 79805CX are the only hardware configurations that can be used as a TCS server. The IBM Lotus Sametime Unified Telephony Connect software can not be installed to any other server. For the former model x3650T, only upgrade install from previous releases are supported, new install of Sametime 8.5.2 release on this model will not be supported.
  • Telephony Control Server is always deployed with two physical servers that enable server fail over and high availability.
