Cognos 8 BI 8.4.1 Software Environments

Abstract

All versions stated of an environment presume the initial release of a 3rd party product without any need for patches/service packs or equivalent terms unless stated. Equally, unless stated, IBM Cognos presumes that the 3rd party product has not been configured to disable new features (compatibility modes) and that all patches/service packs are upward compatible for our products from the versions stated.

All IBM Cognos 8.4.1 BI 32-bit versions will integrate with 32-bit 3rd party libraries only. IBM Cognos 8.4.1 BI 64-bit installs will integrate with 64-bit Java environments only, other integration points require 3rd party 32-bit libraries.

All references to Windows refer to Windows on x86 or x86-64 architecture.

Software environments for IBM Cognos 8.4.1 are listed as Active, Compatible or Not Supported. Environments denoted as active are environments currently tested by IBM Cognos. Although environments denoted as compatible may also be tested, testing may be limited or support may be based on compatibility statements from IBM Cognos partners and third-party vendors. Older releases of environments may transition from active to compatible over time as significant testing would have occurred in previous IBM Cognos releases.

(2) OpenSSL is bundled as part of the Cognos Enhanced Encryption Module package. The version of OpenSSL included with that package is the only OpenSSL toolkit that is supported.

(3) Customers using the IQD Bridge installation option for IQD sources should consult the Series 7 Version 4 MR3 supported environments page for the Transformer hosted operating system and its' supported data sources.

(4) PowerCube security sources are limited to the version of Transformer being used and by the target platform operating system hosting the Content Manager component.

(5) The sources listed have ODBC drivers that conform to at least the ODBC 3.5 specification or higher. There are many data sources not listed which have ODBC connectivity from Windows using ODBC drivers to the 3.5 (or higher) specification. These sources are supported on Windows only but are not actively tested.

(6) The JSQLConnect JDBC Driver is bundled with the product for use with IBM Cognos BI 8.4.1 and Microsoft SQL Server products only.

(7) Connecting to DB2 on z/OS, the driver version must be at least JCC 3.7 (from DB2 9.1 for LUW Fix Pack 5+) or JCC 3.42 (from DB2 9.5 for LUW Fix Pack 2)

(8) Data Manager is not available for the Linux on IBM System z platform. The following RDBMS are supported as read-only: MySQL, Postgres, HP Vertica, Paraccel, EMC Greenplum, Actian Vectorwise, Teradata Aster Data.

(11) The only version of Firefox that IBM actively supports is the Extend Support Version of Firefox ESR 17 (see http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/). If customers use the non-ESR version of Firefox (version 10, 11, 12,…) it is our best estimation that changes in the current and future versions of the Firefox browser will not cause issues with our product used as long as Mozilla does not remove, explicitly or inadvertently disable functionality that the browser based tools rely on. However we recommend that you contact IBM support if you do encounter any such issues. For browser levels higher than the levels that have been certified with Cognos BI, Customer Support will accept usage-related and defect-related service requests. As with operating system and virtualization environments, if IBM support cannot recreate the issue in our lab, we may ask the Cognos BI customer to recreate the problem on a certified browser.

(12) Customers are requested to move up to Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 SP3 to avoid known performance problems on SP1.

(13) The Transformer UI is available on Windows platforms only.

(14) An Updater was available for support prior to Fix Pack (1004)

(15) Windows 7 is not a supported operating system for Transformer.

References to HP-UX without further qualification are intended to include both PA-RISC and Itanium platforms.
