Sample persistence for WebSphere Premises Server

White paper

Abstract

This document describes an alternate, sample persistence implementation that does not store the events as XML. When compared to the default XML-based event persistence, performance is improved.

Content

WebSphere Premises Server provides sensor event persistence by saving the original event XML in a database. While saving the event as XML has its advantages such as the ability to run XPath queries, it also has its disadvantages such as performance.

Performance is an issue because the Business Intelligence and Reporting Tools (BIRT) that provide the reporting platform must parse each XML event in order to extract the relevant data. Customers with a large number of persisted events will experience slow reporting performance due to the XML parsing.
