IBM Lotus Sametime Unified Telephony 8
Product Identifier Product Identifier (PID) number 5724U79 contains two components:
  • IBM Lotus Sametime Unified Telephony Call delivers the user capabilities including Click-to-call, Click-to-Conference, Embedded softphone and visual Call Window, Telephony presence, and Incoming Call Management. Key server code includes the Telephony Application Server (TAS) and the Media Server (MS). The license includes limited use (for SUT only) of the following.
    - IBM WAS Network Deployment V6.1 (5724H88)
    - Tivoli Directory Integrator V6.1.1 (57624K74)
    - Tivoli System Automation for Multi-platforms V3.1.0 (C1A8IML)
  • IBM Lotus Sametime Unified Telephony Connect manages the connections to one or many Private Branch Exchange [PBX] System(s). A key component is the Telephony Control Server (TCS) code.

Network Recommendations
Inter-server communications A network with a minimum 100 Mbps throughput, and sub 100 msec latency.

  • Client connection must be full duplex
  • Sub 100 msec latency
  • 100mb or higher in a LAN environment, to ensure that all users have enough bandwidth
  • Throughput depends on the usage. External phones require no additional bandwidth. Using a computer as phone requires bandwidth commensurate with the codec being used, varying from 10 to 32 kbps. Other applications may affect bandwidth requirements as well.

512kbps or greater for H.263, which is what is part of the Lotus Sametime 8.0.2 and Lotus Sametime Unified Telephony.

Note: SuSe Linux, under license from Novell, is packaged with Lotus Sametime Unified Telephony 8 for ease of installation.

Note: Two of the following systems are required for a production environment. The model is configured to include all necessary components.

Component: Powercord Quantity: 2 cords per x3650 T server.

Description: Country specific power cords need to be ordered separately. They are not included with P/N 79805CX. Two are required for each x3650T server.

Alternative Minimum Requirements
For small deployments, you can combine the TAS and Media Server on one machine. Optionally, if you want to explore moving the Media Server off TAS, you could choose to combine TAS with a lower-end machine for Media Server-only function (small server solution) or the specified TAS with a high-end machine for Media Server-only function. This means that you will have increased media/mixing capacity.

4 server-class CPU @ 2 GHz or higher; either Quad-core Intel Xeon or 2 dual-core Intel Xeons
8 GB RAM or higher
140 GB hard-drive(s) or higher, 10K RPM or higher, RAID (recommended)

Media Server (small server solution -- 150 G711 channels, 50 G729 channels, 3000 busy-hour call attempts):
1 dual-core Intel Xeon >= 2 GHz
4 GB RAM

Media Server (high-end solution -- 500 G711 channels, 160 G729 channels, 10000 busy-hour call attempts):

Storage Area Network (SAN) System Storage - Fiber
Connecting each TAS in a Cluster Environment The storage area network (SAN) is needed to support Telephony Application and Media Server fail-over.
Any SAN system meeting the minimum specifications of the following recommended system:

  • IBM 4 Gbps SW SFP Transceiviers (4804): 2 per TAS and Media server
  • LC-LC Fiber cable: 2 per TAS and Media server
  • Coupler cable: 1 at length required by client to configure the SAN
