This release of Rational Modeling Extension for Microsoft .NET contains new features and enhancements in the following areas:

Adding XML comments to .NET elements in UML models
You can add XML comments in the UML model and transform them into the C# code during the UML-to-C# transformation. You can also use this comments feature in the C#-to-UML transformation.

Modeling and code generation support for generic constraints in C# transformation
Now the UML-to-C# transformation supports generic constraints for modeling and code generation. You can also validate the model against generic constraints by enabling the model validation option.

Support for resolving type references from external models in C#-to-UML transformation
If you work with C# project, and transform it into UML models, you can create an association file that defines cross-project references between the source and model elements when the elements might be outside of the scope of a transformation configuration.

This release of Rational Modeling Extension for Microsoft .NET contains new features and enhancements in the following areas:

  • Interface realization support
  • User code preservation
  • Support for C# 3.0

  • UML-to-C# transformation improvements for interface realizations
Interface realization support for UML-to-C# transformations has been enhanced further to include the methods, properties, events, and indexers from the template interface. When a class implements a template interface, it does so with the instance interface for the template interface. All the methods, properties, events, and indexers from the template interface are generated into the class that implements it.

    User code preservation
It is now possible to preserve all user code which does not have a UML representation in the model, such as preprocessor directives, upon reapplying a UML-to-C# transformation.

    Support for C# 3.0
It is now possible to model and generate code for the following C# 3.0 features:
    • Extension methods
    • Partial methods
    • Auto-implemented properties

This release of Rational Modeling Extension for Microsoft .NET contains new features and enhancements in the following areas:

    • Support for Visual Studio 2008
    • UML-to-C# transformation improvements for interface realizations
    • Windows Communication Foundation support

    • Support for Visual Studio 2008
This release of IBM Rational Modeling Extension for Microsoft .NET includes integration with Microsoft® Visual Studio 2008. Integration with Microsoft's latest IDE enables users to do the following tasks:
      • Import Visual Studio 2008 solutions to workspaces
      • Generate C# 2.0 code in Visual Studio 2008 projects
      • Reverse engineer C# 2.0 code in Visual Studio 2008 projects

UML-to-C# transformation improvements for interface realizations
UML-to-C# transformation now reflects the interface realization in the code for the class that realizes the interfaces. This provides support for inclusion of methods, properties, events, and indexers in the class from the interface in the generated code.

      Windows Communication Foundation support
Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) support in Rational Modeling Extension for Microsoft .NET provides the following benefits:
      • Model WCF contracts

This release of Rational Modeling Extension for Microsoft .NET removes the Rational XDE™ for Visual Studio C# model and code import feature.

Removal of Rational XDE for Visual Studio C# model and code import capabilities

Due to the passing of the End of Service date for IBM Rational XDE™, the feature that imports collections of models and C# code from Rational XDE projects (accessed as File-->Import-->Other-->XDE .NET Solution) has been withdrawn. Customers who still have Rational XDE C# projects and need to migrate them can use the 7.0.0.x or 7.0.5.x versions of the extension and its host offerings. When those older versions of the Modeling Extension for Microsoft .NET are used to perform the migration, the models and projects that are produced are compatible with Modeling Extension for Microsoft .NET v7.5 and its v7.5 host offerings.

For example, at the time of this release, the best practice is to use either Rational Software Architect V7.0.0.8 hosting the Modeling Extension for Microsoft .NET V7.0.0.8, or use Rational Software Modeler or Rational Systems Developer V7.0.5.3 hosting the Modeling Extension for Microsoft .NET V7.0.5.3. Install those versions on a single desktop within your organization, and perform the migration on that machine. Once the migration of models and code has been completed, uninstall those older product versions and install v7.5 on that machine. With the 7.5 versions, open the workspace that contains the imported modeling projects, and place them under source management to share with the rest of the development team.

For information about features that are removed or deprecated in Rational Software Delivery Platform design, construction, and modeling products, Version 7.5, see http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=3539&uid=swg27013438.
