Hardware and software requirements

For additional system requirement details refer to:
Rational ClearCase System Requirements List

See Change History for updates.

Supported file systems

Refer to
technote 1516887 for information about supported file systems.

NFS support

For a given platform, IBM supports the NFS implementations that the platform supports.

If you use non-ClearCase access, see the IBM Rational ClearCase Administrator's Guide for a description of the limitations associated with use of NFS and potential workarounds.

Refer to
technote 1409405 NFSv4 support and ClearCase for details regarding NFS version 4 support.

Wireless 802.11g

Wired connectivity 100MB Full Duplex (recommended)

Note: Processes and file descriptors per host running Linux or the UNIX system are set as kernel parameters.

Footnote 1: For more detailed configuration information refer to technote 1327082 CM Server configuration guidelines for CCRC in ClearCase version 7.1

Footnote 2: Additional ClearCase processes or servers located on this machine (such as license, registry, VOB, or others) will require additional resources.

Footnote 3: Additional disk space is required for the local copy area and is dependent upon the number of views created and the size of the files loaded.

Disk space requirements for individual hosts

Disk space requirements for individual hosts shows the disk space requirement for each type of installation. All the space must be contained in a single disk partition.

In addition, any host that will have snapshot view directories needs enough disk space to contain all files loaded into the snapshot views and all view-private files added to the views. The amount of space required depends on the number and sizes of the files in the views.

Any host that will have VOB- or view-storage directories must have enough disk space to contain the files and databases used for storage of VOB- or view-storage directories. The amount of space required depends on the characteristics and use of the VOBs and views.

Basic software requirements

When installing ClearCase on Red Hat Enterprise Linux or SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, note that it may be necessary to have the kernel headers installed. Attempting to run the installation without the kernel headers installed could result in errors if precompiled MVFS modules are not available for the running kernel.

Required operating system patches

Typically, correct Rational ClearCase operation depends on your having installed a number of required or recommended operating system patches. These are available from your hardware vendor. The operating system patches are cumulative. Therefore, if you install a more recent patch, it will include the fix required for Rational ClearCase. See Table 5 for a list of patches recommended or required for all hosts on which Rational ClearCase software runs. There may also be required layered packages, as listed in Layered software packages.

In addition to the patches listed in Table 5, which fix problems known to affect ClearCase functionality, you may require other OS vendor patches to keep your systems functioning properly. Refer to the appropriate vendor web site for information on where to obtain these patches.

For information about Microsoft Windows service pack requirements, refer to technote 1302974.

If you use IBM Rational Rational ClearCase MultiSite, and you are upgrading from clearcase_p2003.06.00-13, or an earlier patch version, you must install the clearcase_p2003.06.00-21 or later user space patch version of Rational ClearCase on the ClearCase registry server machine before you install it on any other ClearCase machine. Failing to do so will result in runtime errors.

Rational ClearCase MultiSite has no known dependencies on operating system patches.
