Abstract
IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) is a very flexible product that has a great breadth of functionality. It supports many sophisticated applications such as database backup, mail system backup, long-term archiving, content management and hierarchical storage management.
The purpose of this field guide is to provide the concepts and operational processes that are necessary for a successful TSM backup solution. We will start with an overview of backup and recovery as a service to either internal or external customers. We then continue with describing how this service can be implemented through a combination of defined process roles and responsibilities, and specific implementations. The field guide concludes with an example of specific operational processes that are required for a successful TSM solution.
