White paper
Abstract
IBM Tivoli Storage Manager provides features that can be used to improve security of your environment. This document explains practical uses of the TSM security features, why they are necessary, and how they can be configured in your environment. Tivoli Storage Manager supports multi user environments, which enable non-administrators to use TSM to manage their own data. This document discusses some of the following topics related to security management in a multi-user environment:
· TSM users, their capabilities and recommended guidelines to achieve a level of security sufficient for your needs.
· Enabling and disabling TSM users.
· Password issues and importance of encryption.
· Restricting execution of server defined commands.
· Recommendations for maintaining various levels of security.
The topics discussed in this document apply mostly to TSM clients running on UNIX operating systems (including the client of Mac OS X). Many of the topics however apply to non-UNIX clients as well. The information discussed in this document is current as of the Tivoli Storage Manager client V5.2.2 level.
