The Java sample applications highlight different options for building Java applications by using the maketpf utility and how to load them to your z/TPF system. This package contains two sample Java applications:

1. A Hello World applications that is built by using a Maven script within the maketpf utility. The Maven script is generated independently of the maketpf utility.
2. A client/server application that uses more typical Java packages, including java.io and java.net. Both the client and server utilize a maketpf-style .mak file to build their Java applications.
3. A new variant of the original Hello World application. This application additionally demonstrates how to use a local, layered Maven repository within the maketpf utility to resolve dependencies on another maketpf-built Maven application.

The Hello World application takes a previously written Java application which uses Maven to do the compile and packaging steps, and provides an example of how to connect a maketpf program entry to a Maven-built application. The client/server application focuses on actual Java functionality and provides an example of how to use the JAR program types in maketpf. The repository demo application shows how maketpf can be used for multiple Maven-built applications that have interdependencies.

Although using maketpf to build Java applications is not required, the option is provided as a means to help incorporate building Java applications into a full system build. If you prefer to continue to create Java applications independent of the maketpf utility, you can simply add entries to a .loadfile as necessary and separately issue a loadtpf command to transfer them to your z/TPF system.
