Abstract

This document describes how to download installation images for IBM Spectrum Protect™ for Virtual Environments Version 7.1.6.

Download Description

Tip: Beginning with Version 7.1.3, IBM Tivoli Storage Manager for Virtual Environments is now IBM Spectrum Protect™ for Virtual Environments. Some applications such as the software fulfillment systems and IBM License Metric Tool use the new product name. However, the software and its product documentation continue to use the Tivoli Storage Manager for Virtual Environments product name. IBM Spectrum Protect for Virtual Environments 7.1.6 includes the following components and levels:

  • Data Protection for VMware 7.1.6
  • Data Protection for Microsoft Hyper-V 7.1.6

Note: About vulnerabilities that have been identified in IBM Spectrum Protect Client/API:

The IBM Spectrum Protect Client/API are used as components in Data Protection for VMware and in Data Protection for Hyper-V. The IBM Spectrum Protect Backup-Archive Client, also known as the data mover, is a separate prerequisite and is included as a convenience in Data Protection for VMware and Data Protection for Hyper-V installation packages. The IBM Spectrum Protect Client API is also a prerequisite of Data Protection for VMware and is installed as a part of the default Data Protection for VMware installation process. Be aware that all functional components must be at the same Fix Pack level. Within a given Fix Pack level, the interim fix level can differ.

See "Flashes, alerts and bulletins for Tivoli Storage Manager for Virtual Environments Support Portal" for vulnerabilities that have been identified in IBM Spectrum Protect that affect other IBM Spectrum Protect products and also Data Protection for VMware and Data Protection for Hyper-V.

Instructions to replace IBM Spectrum Protect Client/API on systems where Data Protection for VMware is installed within a Fix Pack level:
  • If the IBM Spectrum Protect Client (data mover) is installed on this system, it is possible to upgrade the Data Mover by installing the new IBM Spectrum Protect Client package.
    This will update the IBM Spectrum Protect API as well.
  • If the IBM Spectrum Protect Client (data mover) is not installed on this system (for example, if only the GUI is installed):
    • On a Linux system, it is possible to upgrade the IBM Spectrum Protect API by installing the new API package
    • On a Windows system, its necessary to install the IBM Spectrum Protect Client package, which automatically installs the new API package

Instructions to replace IBM Spectrum Protect Client/API on systems where Data Protection for Hyper-V is installed within a Fix Pack level:
  • It is possible to upgrade the IBM Spectrum Protect Client (data mover) by installing the new IBM Spectrum Protect Client package. This will update the IBM Spectrum Protect API as well.

Maintenance Packages via the PTF Distribution Web Site
(Data Protection for VMware and Data Protection for Microsoft Hyper-V)

All IBM Spectrum Protect for Virtual Environments 7.1.6 maintenance packages can be accessed using the PTF distribution Web site.

However, these PTF packages require an existing V7.1.x installation on the machine before applying them because the PTF maintenance packages do not contain the license enablement files required for use of the component. If this is your initial installation of a IBM Spectrum Protect for Virtual Environments component on a machine or VM, you should obtain your packages, with the associated license enablement files, from the Passport Advantage Online Web site.

    The Version 7.1.3 documentation for Data Protection for Microsoft Hyper-V is compatible with the 7.1.6 release and is available in IBM Knowledge Center.
  • The Data Protection for VMware documentation is available at this release level and is located in the IBM Spectrum Protect 7.1.6 Information Center in both HTML and PDF formats.

Download Package

The HTTP link in the Download Options column below directs you to the Passport Advantage Online Web site. Passport Advantage is a secure Web site that requires an account ID and password. It has all of the component and platform images associated with IBM Spectrum Protect for Virtual Environments 7.1.6 available for download.

You can locate images on the Passport Advantage Online Web site by using the part number as the search query. For example to locate the IBM Spectrum Protect for Virtual Environments: Data Protection for VMware use as search query CNB3ZML for Windows and use CNB40ML for Linux.

The FTP link in the Download Options column provided below is to the top level directory that contains this Fix Pack. The subdirectory structure separates the Fix Pack images by operating system platform, then by available Fix Pack version.

Reminder: These images available via the Data Protection for VMware Maintenance Packages link do not contain license enablement files. You must already have a base level package installed in order to use these packages.
